MacBook Pro's are more durable than the MacBooks, the plastic trackpad/keyboard panel always breaks on MacBooks, and if they're white they get dirty and look like shit. If it weren't a money/size thing, the Pro is the better choice.

you probably will. They don't change form factors of Mac laptops too often and the current MBP casings have been around for like 4 or 5 years now...

You will regret it as much as my sister who bought an iBook G4 in April 2006, and the macbook was released a couple of weeks later.

Like dismal said the form factor is quite old, and was already used when they called it Powerbooks, so the odds that they refresh it are high. Also, the macbook pro, besides being more durable and not getting dirty like the macbook, has real decent speakers.

it will be available next month. that list is not true but few things are possible. it's worth to wait but the price might be a little higher than expected

Yeah true. Price is another thing i've been considering, since if the retail is much higher than the current MBP retail I might have to hold off a few months anyway depending what work comes up.

It won't come out on the 17th, it's either gonna be Tuesday the 9th, Tuesday the 16th, or never (as far as I am concerned), but since you're in Australia, yeah you might end up hearing about it on the 17th and be crying. Why do you have to have it by the 16th? Student deal?

I didn't realize I'd be in the pool of macrumors trolls either, but my mom told me last night that she wants to buy me a new computer as a going away present, and I leave the morning of the 24th, so I am now crossing my fingers for something on the 16th at the latest as well, cuz I need time to pilfer a bunch of software off my mom and get some accessories collected for it too. I don't really need the free iPod, because last time I tried the student deal, a few years ago, it didn't work for me anyway, many years ago, and it's just a couple bills off really.

I am only traveling with a carryon and hopefully just one check-in for the next year or maybe more, so obviously my choices are limited to:

-mac mini

-macbook

-macbook air

-MBP

-new stuff, if released the 16th or before, for immediate order

Since it's a gift from my mom that I really didn't need or expect, I kinda want to go for the regular old MacBook to keep things cheap and just limited to what I need, but shit, these revisions are gonna make me pretty pissed if I cop too early.

If it were between the current MacBook and MBP, which is the oldest one that needs revision first? Is the MacBook Air as trashy as I think it is, and does anyone think they might drop the price on the Air a little? I don't do a whole lot of computing besides sufu, my email, and a simple website I want to set up soon, so I don't think I need much.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this already (a search suggested that they hadn't), but for those with mulitouch enabled models Multiclutch allows you to assign multitouch actions to keyboard shortcuts in applications. I've been using it primarily to make touch comands available in Firefox as they are in Safari, but it works in other applications too.

I should've asked polishmike, but I just went and copped a MacBook last night so I can get on with my life. I keep feeling we won't see any of these new macs for awhile, October or maybe even next January. I wasn't gonna get the Pro, which really needs the updates anyway compared to the MacBook, so I figure no love lost there. They really need to fix the (lack of) disparity between the MacBook Pro and MacBook, considering the prices, so I figure that the MBP will be the first to change, and it will be dope.

got few pm's so i'll say what i know. there is a plan to release the new laptops this month. good bet is in the middle of the month so sept 15-16. i know some specs but won't get into that. some people are telling me that they won't ship till the end of the month so keep that in mind. i know nothing about macbook air, iphone, imac, your weird rash...

if you really need to buy one now, get mbp. i personally don't like regular macbooks but they are fine for browsing the web, email, porn.

yeah, i recommend using safari. it's a simple and fast browser. firefox is wayyy too slow on my macbook.
