Engineered Garments Thread/Questions

Odin and Steven Alan will most likely carry the SS version of that hoodie. I think Odin is your best bet, since they carried both the pullover and zip thermal lined versions of the hoodie in at least heather and black.

The zip thermal version fits pretty much the same as the old Spruce classic fit in all respects, but is considerably thicker because of the lining. I don't have the hoodie with me to make measurements.

Not available in atlanta.

in fact, there's nothing good in atlanta.

the only good retailer out here is barney's coop

and their stock is pretty shitty, as well.

i like some of EG's stuff, but a lot of it doesn't translate well into S/S, in my opnion. that hoodie is pretty nice, though.

Does anyone have any idea where I can get the first (S/s 05?) season's jackets? I loved the coats and double breasted jackets they made and not much else afterwards.

I'll post some detailed pictures (Rakuten explorer Style) of some pieces like the ripstop pathfinder jacket, as well as some scanned pictures from the lookbook, sometime next week, on the other SF, in the dedicated thread. Might do the same for some FW06 stuf I have. We'll see how (camera) trigger happy I get.

Hi,

I have a couple of questions about the Monty Duffle Coat -

1) Does anyone have measurements for it, preferably in a size M?

2) Also, does anyone know of a store that still has them available in Black or Grey?

Here is a picture of the Duffle in Grey -

Thanks

Drinkwater's (www.drinkwaterscambridge.com) has the black version of the Monty jacket (not the full length coat) right now, and I am reasonably sure that he has a medium in stock. I believe that they were $425 or something, but there is an "unofficial" sale going on, and they may be discounted up to 30%. Gary is actually buying in NYC right now, but if you call him at the end of next week, ask him about them. Tell him that LA Guy sent you when you ask about the sale.

I love the material and craftmanship on EG pieces, but the fit on them just doesn`t do it for me. I`m not sure if its just that I can`t wrap my head around the "worker" cut or what.

It actually depends on the specific model and material, For example, all of the hoodies are slim fitting (though the thermal lined ones are bulkier looking because of their thickness) and this past FW06 seasons wool melton Engineer's jacket was actually quite fitted in the shoulders and waist, as was the thermal lined bedford jacket. However, the Monty has a lot of extra space, because it is meant to be layered over a sweater and a jacket!

For those that own or have seen the EG pullover hoody, how does it compare to say wings&horns or spruce. Also how warm/thick is it. From some of the rakuten pictures it looks reeeaaaaly thin.

The SS ones are pretty thin. The FW06 ones are thermal lined and super thick and warm. Easily the warmest hoodie I've worn or owned, and that includes heavier ones like those by Ever or Rogan. They fit not unlike the old Spruce classic fit, maybe a little slimmer, for the same size. So, between the Spruce classic fit and the W+H slim fit. However, the style is somewhat different. The back drapes a little in the back rather than tapering with the body the way the W+H hoodies do.

weird...i called odin last week and they said all they had was xlarge. (I called both stores). anyone know if they got the s/s07 stuff in like super recent or anything?

thanks for the measurements.

Dammit! I needed that xl. I just called them and they are sold out.

Any other sources for the f/w pullovers?

Until you posted a fit shot, Poly, I had no idea how well the thing fit. It's understated, sure -- very few people are going to notice anything special about it on first glance. The pricetag is justified almost completely in how natural it feels. Sleeves are just long enough, cuffs are well-constructed, drape is superfluous, the thick, 3-part hood falls like a fat teardrop (odd description, I know), the snaps at the neck create a makeshift scarf.

The kangaroo pouch dips down in the center so phones, mp3 players, etc. stay put, and the thickness of the material means that your stuff doesn't cause the whole front to sag.

All this, and you haven't yet even taken into account how thick, soft, and warm it feels. The last pullover hoodie I'll ever wear? Probably.

The problem with the s/s pullover is its going to be pretty thin and I like my hoodies to have some meat to them. I really slept on this one and now Im going to try and track down a f/w one and probably fail.

edit: How about we get a list of EG stockists going for reference.

I just found out that EG is a "japanese brand".

It's designed and made in NYC but it's directed by Nepenthes (that select store in shibuya).

The designer and most of the team are Japanese but in a sense it's a very american brand....depends how you define it.

What do you guys who own the S/S hoody think of the material? How thin is it? I was so set on a F/W version but missed out on it. From pics it looks pretty thin, which is cool since I live in SoCal, but I dont want it tooo thin, at a certain point it really isnt a sweatshirt anymore. Reviews/comments welcome!
