hello hello,

I NEED HELP!!

i know by right i should be reading up on the super denim encyclopedia,

but really dont fancy all that reading at the minute, so hear goes.

i have a pair of sugar cane 47s and love them, but now im looking to buy

a pair of the levi 1947s and dont know where im best to buy them

because from reading up on supertalk, everyone seems to say

each model are different, depending on where your buying them

from. so i dont know wether to buy them in america,

or wether to buy a pair of 2000db who lives in japan and

is a user of supertalk,

or wether to buy a pair in UK at www.endclothing.co.uk which

i may add are down

to only (£79.00 )

im really not worried about the price, its whatever most

people think is the best cut,

or closest to the old originals. i think i have red here somewhere

that the japanese ones are the best, but im really not quite sure!!! would really appreciate your views people!!! thanks...

If you want a very acurate repro as far as cut forget the 47s and go with LVCs 55 501s. They're VERY CLOSE in both denim (texture and weight) and cut. In fact they could have been made and came out of the same factory as origianls.

Yeah, what airfrog said. I got a pair of the current LVC 47's, and they are nothing like an actual 40's jean cutwise. I guess I'll put 'em up on the supermarket. The 55's are pretty cool, I don't think they come raw in the US, but cultizm.com has raw 55's.

The Japanese LVC 47 may very well be cut differently from the American/European version, as the Japanese 55 is definitely different than the American/European. I say go for the Japanese and you can always flip them on supermarket if you don't like them and buy the 55s from Cultizm.

do you agree that the

55s are not as slim as the 47s isnt that correct?

I actually think the SC47 are cut to trim also compared to originals though they are closer than the 47 LVCs. No one has more access to origianls patterns and original Levis from that period than Levis. I have no idea why they didn't do a better job on the cut of their 47s but they nail it on the 55s.

  • 1 month later...

Airfrog,

I have read in the various posts that you have a great variety of LVC's,

some have been washed (unintentional?) and others unwashed (rinsed?)

What is your experience size wise with these, 501's, 201's?

About the unwashed, have they stayed true to tag size? Do they stretch?

Thanks

I think the Levis 47 model, at least the pair i had and promptly got rid of, were designed to meet a perceived demand for a skinny jean. To me they were just not right at all. The sugarcane 47 i bought was much more like the LVC 55 than it was like the LVC 47. The LVC 47 I had was just too slim and in no way seemed like a vintage jean. It kind of reaked of Seinfeld to me.

Regarding the accuracy of the LVC 47 repro, Paul T made a post (I belive in his thread showing wear on his own jeans) stating that he thought the LVC 47 was pretty correct if SIZED up. That the pattern itself was very similar to Sugarcane 47, but that they are undersized reflecting either they way people wore their jeans in the 50s or Levis sizing at the time.
