Digital SLRs?

yeah, I've heard that the d40 limits the lens-buying capabilities. does this mean there are ONLY less options available for the d40 or are they out there, but more expensive than a non-motorized lens?

so you're recommending I get the XT?

I went from an XT to a d40 and when i was going back and forth about it looking up reviews and comparing specs what really sold me on the camera was when i actually held it in my hands. Someone mentioned it already, but actually feeling comfortable using the camera is important especially if you are going to be using it for extended periods of time.

you can get pretty good deals on these since the d40x and now the d60 came out.

I also recently picked up a D2h which I love but I still go for the d40 all the time. and if youre not willing to do alot of pp with raw etc, the out of camera jpegs fromthe d40 are pretty good imho..

flashlight...

I dont exactly get what you're trying to do. But you can lock focus by using the * button if you change custom fn 4-0 to 4-1. This way when you halfpress the camera wont refocus

i'm surprised so many people are gung-ho about the d40. the need for AF-S is a pretty big deal, imo. there are some great cheap-ish primes out there...but useless on that camera. it does have great jpg quality though.

Anyone have experience with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L?

Looking at buying one within a month or two...

one of the best zooms out there

non-is > is when possible, due to image quality.

that said, you are going to think that even the 70-200mm L sucks if you get your hands on a 135mm f2L or a 85mm f1.2L etc.

and just because it is an L doesnt mean it is free from sample variation, try to be able to test out a few diff copies at the store.

i hear the 18-135 is not a good lens, i dunno tho only cuz my manager told me or some shit, i would try out the lens first.. or just go with kit and buy something else later so you can see what focal lengths you like/need..

thaiison.. 450d is Xsi rite? it is CRAP camera and i like nikon... def go with d80 cuz xsi is like tom1986

what quailifies XSI as crap? 12 mp, 14 bit, digic 3 processing... a huge 3 inch screen... i dunno seems like it has alot better options and IQ then a d80 has...

o shit i just noticed the typo i meant to say i like canon, but still like d80 better..

yo d80 is cheaper than xsi i believe, and plus the xsi is crap because u r payin more than the xti basically for the 2mp, almost same processin, i think .2 fps faster... larger screen dont mean shit cuz all it do is drain battery faster...

basically the more megapixels, bigger screen, and live view are all targeted towards techbeasts, i seen it myself, loser pinoy dudes or soccer moms coming in and instantly being dazzled by the live view and big screen and double digit mp # witout knowin shit..

It really doesn't. All of those points are minute. The difference between 10 and 12 megapixels is minuscule. You'll probably never notice a difference between 12 and 14-bit. The screen still has the same resolution of the D80's. Either way it's not that big of a deal. There no point in comparing IQ between DSLRs. The differences are minor. The D80 in my opinion feels and handles way better. Settings are easy to change with the 2 dials. All the buttons are easy to reach. Unless you've already invested in Canon, the D80 is definitely a better buy then an XSI.
