what non-denim things do you collect?

Recommended Posts

i figure denimheads are collectors by nature, so what else do you collect?

i will go first:

- the 60's Doom Patrol comics (only)

- records (i don't think of it as collecting, but i've amassed many many)

- books (i didn't realize i was collecting until i already had the collection)

- concert ticket stubs (ones i've attended only)

- coins (not really)

- movies (on dvd, vhs)

i am hoping someone has some strange collections...

I collect vintage(ish) belt buckles. I've got 3 Coca Colas, 1 Pepsi, a Foghat (please someone say they remember this group), a frampton, one The Beatles, a HIRES root beer, and right now I'm wearing a Miller High Life. Am still trying to get an ELO, Queen, maybe KISS and a few others.

Also, some comics, but that's fallen by the wayside for awhile now.

I'm sure I collect other stuff, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Nice one DDML, thats some good stuff. The only ticket stubb I kept was a cancelled Oasis tour in 97' 98'. We were so up for it, they got boozed and fought...canecelled the tour, wankers.

I wanna start collecting vintage santa cruz skate decks

Music-I have an appetite for music, not so much material collections but I do have far to much, just a completist i guess. I find an artist, explore the genre, move on. This goes from classical, to hip hop to post rock to more narrow genres. I have cds, vinyl, minidiscs ( crap short lived con from sony! ), data, tapes etc

Books- Im pretty anal about them, I really grates on me that I have paperbacks ive read but never gotten round to getting them in hardback, not to read, just to keep. Im pretty into magazines at the mo too. This is probably my favourite collection of stuff. I never seem to have enough space or money for em. Do have many old still in plastic wallet spider mans, not really a passion but used to be and im just hanging onto them.

Dvds, did buy so many, now I dont quite so much.

Dont really collect anything weird

except jeans!

I don't quite know how it started, but I seem to develop collections of vodka/wine bottles. When I was living at home I had a cupboard full of empty vodka bottles that my mother used to complain about.

Might just be my alcoholic tendancies though.

Maybe I should put this in the superconfessional, but I used to collect Magic Cards.

I was never all that serious, but I did have a few pretty good rares and almost full collections of Alliances, Ice Age, Visions and Mirage expansion packs. Sold a mint Black Lotus for $675 a few years ago.

Hah, I used to play magic like crazy, Sold it all for $425 simply didn't want to play anymore.

Now I collect Jones Soda Bottle caps the ones with like fortune cookies underneath.

Apart from denim . .

- Sneakers

- 12"s

- Woodworking tools & wood (is that weird enough?)

- and finally, as my username may suggest, three words that light up my heart - vintage analogue synthesisers

Collector however implies buying things for the purpose of indoor dust catching. I wear my sneaks, listed to my records, plane my timber and am often found tinkering with analogue goodies :)

ddml,

i ran into a guy in okinawa that really schooled me on collecting.

he collects:

vintage jeans, jean jackets and clothes

vintage boots

vintage sneakers

vintage watches (this is his specialty--he had some awesome, awesome timepieces)

old wallets (he makes redmoon-quality custom wallets, i got a wallet for myself)

vintage toys

vintage records

and get this. he's a hair stylist by trade, so he collects vintage hair dryers. yes. hair dryers.

a Foghat (please someone say they remember this group)

haha Foghat is so dope.

Vans

...not really a collector in the sense that I like to get all those limited or crazy ones, most of the ones I buy are plain looking general releases anyway. I just like Vans alot and buy ones that catch my eye.

Cd's

Music piracy isn't my thing.

Ticket stubs

...only of concerts that I was really really into.

I used to collect those U.S. quarters.I would save every one thathad those fancy pictures on them. But when you're broke with like 50 bucks in quarters around you gotta weigh your priorities...

I amass lots of records, but the only ones that I "collect" (as in getting duplicate copies, different presses/colors/etc.) would be my Misfits and RFTC vinyl.

I also have quite a few Jay Ryan posters (http://www.thebirdmachine.com/gallery_jay.html)

Other than that; no disposable income + shoebox apartment = not a lot of extraneous crap

T-Shirts (Can you ever have too many?)

Manga (Nothing beats a good comic book + music + tea for relaxation)

Paint Brushes + Fountain Pens (Functionally- always curious about how the next one works)

International adapters (for different sockets)

Knives (anything funky looking. Love all things jagged)

Why is this in superdenim?

Anyway:

I collect some wines. In fact yesterday I put in a Futures purchase of some Château Lafite Rothschild 2005. Supposed to be "Wine of the vintage" but we'll see... Years from now. For every 20 or so bottles I drink I'll splurge on something to cellar. You think your SB Dunk collection has value? Please kids.

I collect books. I have a few niche authors that I'm into tht you may have heard of. I still search for those coveted first edition first printings etc... I spend a lot of free time on eBay and AbeBooks.

I have a vintage and new sunglass collection that's getting pretty crazy.

I don't collect vintage denim but in about 10 years I'll have a pretty disgusting collection of original shit.

I spend money on some rare clothing every once in a while. Nerd shit.
