you definitely don't need to understand japanese to browse through rakuten or yahoo auction. just use an online-translator like google or babelfish if you want. the reason 2000db's service is so popular is that he deals with the sellers/shops so you don't have to do it yourself.

yup, pretty much your only way, about 99% of the sellers don't ship internationally (it's usually the only thing you'll see on the page written in english). anyway, you need a japanese bank account to set up an account and pay for the goods, so even if they did ship international, it wouldn't be possible to pay for the goods...
