just getting into fixed gear shit.

trying to figure most of it out myself.

Dad brought home an old Norco road bike of his i just spent a few hours taking it all apart.

Gonna grind all the extra do-da's (like o-rings and random metal shit) off it tomorrow and sand the paint off it.

I hear ya'll talking about special paint jobs... if i just want it murdered out (matte black) can i sand it down and do a spraypaint job myself. Then maybe laquer it (or somehow clear coat) or some shit?

thanks.

i had a frame taht was sprayed by a paint can...... i wouldnt reccomend it. not sure how a clear coat spray would look over it, but for about 75-100 bucks you can get it powdercoated usually.

(and the results are pretty good)

A clear coat over would look exactly as it sounds...a clear coat. You ain't going to spot it on black unless you overspray the clear, then you'll start seeing white once it dries.

If you can find a powder coater near you that will be willing to work with a bicycle/follow your specific instructions, it's fairly cheap to get a durable semi-gloss black. Lots of coaters usually won't suggest you to do straight up flat black, so they'll do a satin/low gloss. Worth it if they'll media blast and do the frame/fork for under $85 for a single color. Just be sure they know what they're doing or they'll fuck your frame.

Spray painting it is legit, if you prep it well enough. Clear coat your black coat for sure to make it more durable. The cost would run you around the $50 mark for all your supplies. It's a matter of you wanting to do the work or having someone do it for you. The media blasting to prep for powder coating will also clear your frame from any annoying rust if it's an older frame. But if you're going to grind up the extra bits, then you'll probably Bondo the frame, then powder coating isn't an option anymore.

I'd say just sand, prime, few black coats, few clear coats since it's a hand-me-down. Damn, that was long.

got my selle an anatomica in the mail today

upon first impression its alot more comfy than the brooks off the bat.

however, the brooks b17 (the one i had before) has a higher quality finish / feel to it.

i'll most likely have to sand down a bit on the rough edges of the anatomica but so far its good albeit i've ridden it only 2 blocks to and from my house as a short test ride.

the only complaint i have right now is that the front part of the nose can turn left / right although it wont really affect performance. read on some forums that this can be alleviated by putting a hex bolt on the nail to prevent movement.

so was it worth my 160 dollars?

probaly not since its quite a large chunk of money, but thats for you to decide what you want to pay for comfort / seat.

i enjoy the looks of it and the comfort it provides me (in the short period of time i've ridden it)... although im no century rider and probaly wont be riding one anytime soon, it does the job just fine.

so if i were to give it a rating it'd be 8.5 or even a 9/10 (just my two cents)

i may send in my b17 for their anatomica makeover for 50 bucks..

but not too sure... however, a big concern would be someone attempting to jack the seat when im not around and losing a 160 dollar seat would really suck.

that was long... lol my bad :(

anyone had the possibility to try the new abici model called FUGA?

it really sparked my interest but i'm not sure if i should buy it without having read any reviews of it and without having the possibility to get my hands on it before the purchase.

in 6 months or so ill buy a track bike, but ill just use this bike for learning how to ride fixed gear.

how about this as a god entry level bike?

http://www.bowcycle.com/bc09/bikes/road/kona-paddy-wagon.shtml

get a bianchi pista complete, and from there use it, and upgrade.

dont get a conversion... try and getting a 09 model when it goes on sale or something.

not really feeling the kona

By track, herpsky means the frame isn't a track specific frame with the tighter geometry, high BB, yada yada. The ones you're checking out are road conversions, most likely ghetto ones at inflated prices. You don't want to mess with those. While not the greatest thing, you can still learn on a cheap conversion and move up if you end up liking it.

Hell, you could just buy some economic wheels, sprocket, lockring, and a chain and just pop those onto your dad's 10-speed and try fixed gear from there. Or get a Pake cheap if you want a track style frame.
