If it was a conversion in the first place, you can convert it back. If it were a track specific frame, not really a good idea, you'd probably need a derailleur hangar installed and you probably won't have enough space in the rear fork for a bigger freewheel/cassette.

If that's the case, just buy an old road bike off CL

100x steps further from the flashy concept i had 2 years ago.

a porteur rack and fenders are in the near future. .... once i find a job.

shellac porn!

would love a 650b wheelset. 27" wheels look huge on it atm.

is there a real big change from 170 mm to 165 mm cranks?

5 mm is only ~.20 inch

but im moving from a schwinn to my new surly and it has a lower bottom bracket

No, and pedals and bottom bracket width have more of an influence on avoiding pedal strike.

I always hated 165mm and could never go shorter than 170mm. I had pedal strike on an Iro Rob Roy and a KHS conversion. It wasn't a big deal.

i have a white and a blue anodized deep v for sale/trade. they're both 36 hole, nonmachined, clincher and have never been built up. the blue has some small scratches. they are both straight and true.

i will sell these for $40 each + freight ($60 new off the internet before shipping, typically $75 or so at your shop). i will also trade one straight up for a black, 36 hole, nonmachined aerohead or both for a selle san marco regal saddle in any color (no perforated leather though).

Deep rims ride like doodoo. They stay straight with as little as 8 spokes (Shimano) but they are punishingly rough and skitter out on rough roads and are downright hairy on fast, bumpy corners.

40-spoke rims shouldn't take too much digging about, I think Sun still makes one, Velocity offers it standard, and Phil had a normal hub drilled 40 for tandems.

40-spoke 4x laced looks pretty ridic.

Yeah Ellipses are generally a step up...

but theres so much more to a wheelset than just the rim. Are we talking V's to formulas here? or Phils? or DA? or maybe something in the middle. What kind of spokes, butted, bladed, spoke count, nipples, etc.

I personally ride Dura-ace laced to Mavic Open Pros and thats definitely a step up from most Deep V wheelsets out there... probably comparable to Phil-Deep V combo
