Sewing Classes (in L.A. and other places)

So I wanna explore if I really want to get into fashion design or not. My goal is to make a pair of denim before I even dream further. I'm thinking of taking a sewing class, anyone have experiences in this? What kinds of classes are available? Should I just take a pattern-making class?

^ Nothing discouraging about that post cotton duck! It's all been along the same lines of my own thought. Which is why before I'm even thinking about school, I'm doinng a more long-term test-the-waters deal.

So mebbe I shouldn't even take a class?

I really want to though, just to be around other people more.

have you looked at community colleges/adult schools, that type of thing?

They might have an introductory sewing/pattern-making type thing that will get you started.

Of course, you could also buy books, and just trial-and-error it...
