Stretching in heavy denim

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering how heavier denim tends to stretch. I'm currently in the process of purchasing a pair of S510XX19oz2 from samurai, but am on the wall about the sizing. I was just wondering how much these kind of jeans (or similar heavy denim) tends to stretch AFTER they have been soaked in hot water (or after they have been shrunk the maximum amount.) Do they tend to stretch like a size or more or what? I don't want these be too tight, but I also don't want them hanging off my ass, so I'm having trouble sizing them.

I know some people may say "SEARCH BTN PLZ LOLZ" but I already searched a great deal, and there seems to be no definitive answer in previous posts. Thanks a bunch, this forum is really awesome.

my advice is to buy true to size since you don't want them too tight.

i just don't subscribe to the size-down-stretch-to-fit practice so popular here.

a belt will control the stretching of the waistband. a wash or soak will bring it back down to size if it does happen.

welcome to the superboard.

Thanks for the welcome, I've been lurking here for upwards of 4 months though, just I typically don't post anything since a)not knowledgeable B) most stuff can be found with a search.

Here's my current dilemma. The size 34 would fit (since my waist is ~86-88) but I tend to wear my jeans at my hips (~88-92, depending on how low). Sizes according to their website afters shrinking go as follows: 34 ranges between 86~90 while 35 ranges from 88.5 - 92.5). My question is: judging from personal experience, do you guys think that after shrinking I will still comfortably be able to wear the jeans lower, assuming maximum shrinkage? I'm also asking this because I plan on shrinking them quite drastically so that I don't have to take them in to get the ridiculously long 36 inseam hemmed.

Thanks for all the help!

I don't have any pics at work (or at home, for that matter,) but basically right underneath the underwear "band" (I'm assuming there's some consistency btw how people wear their underwear ha please don't tell me details >.<). Like I said, the measurement here is around 89-91 cm. I basically took a piece of string, wrapped around my waist, marked the way around my hip area, and then measured with tape measure (industrial kind.) I guess I was just wondering if it would be possible for this kind of denim to stretch from 86 cm to ~90 cm at the waist since I've read elsewear on this forum that heavier denim like this tends not to stretch as much.

fixed!

it will stretch to accomodate your body. it may just take longer to do it.

i stand by buying your true size.

I also have a similar question, which I have asked in several other posts, but cannot get a great answer. I am going to order a pair of S5000vx. my waist measures 34 and my hips are 34.5. My Sc 47s and my Flathead 3003s are both size 33, and fit me perfectly. I want to order my S5000vx true-to-size, so would that be the size I normally wear (33) or the size I actually measure (34)?
