Wearing brown & black?

Is it a faux pas to wear brown with black?

I have a brown jacket, and I wanted to get black leather gloves and a black scarf for the winter.

Would that look stupid?

Pretty much. Dark brown and black really look kind of odd going together.

Medium grey would go well with what you're talking about. If the jacket is leather, then I think the black scarf and black gloves would be okay.

brown and black rules. navy and black, too, as long as you look like you know what you're doing and it doesn't look like a mistake.

Brown and black can usually look good. I think the brown jacket with black gloves/scarf would look pretty good together,

yeah brown and black look great together if done right...simple example is like black shoes w/brown pants and a black top, dope. black gloves def work w/a dark brown coat imo, but a black scarf w/it sounds off, i dunno...

I'll see if I can find nice brown leather gloves, otherwise I'll try out some black ones.

BTW R&S, the Vans outlet sucked. No chukkas, no cabs, nothing really at discount prices.

i was thinking of making a thread like this: "Bad color combos"

with black & brown and Black & navy blue in mind.

I sort of stay away from these combos. Yet i think they aren't always horrible.

Any other opinions on navy blue and black?

black/brown - I do it all the time

navy/black - I do less frequent, but works

just try and see what works, I have a friend who swears every time I do black/brown

Something about brown .. I dunno I like the color, but personally I feel like it doesn't go well with anything else I have. When you attempt this, post it in the WAYWT thread.

good question, for ages i thought it was a complete faux pas and didnt do it, but then my gf said it was cool and i started to notice loads of girls get away with it and pull it off and look great.

I still think its a tricky area, e.g. different fabrics seem to go ok to me, I wore a brown velvet jacket with a black t and it looked ok, but I think black shoes and belt with brown trousers look awful.

Not to plug but the dunks im selling are brown and black but because the black is wool they look cool to me.

I probly wouldnt wear a brown button up shirt with a black jacket.

Its a tricky area but to say brown and black cant ever mix is a too simplistic view for me.

Yeah I know...girls can get away with both the black/brown and black/navy...especially when they're in ALL black and the coat is just the shakey color. I saw a gang of 5th Ave. pumas rockin' black outfits (the whole RL horse riding look with tight black slacks/riding pants and those high leather riding boots) with the RL'ish navy w/ gold accents coats (peacoats and the like)...they were actually good to go...maybe cause of the gold accents. My girl did the same thing with a mostly black with a white blouse outfit...and a brown peacoat today...and she looked great.

Black and lighter shades of brown/tan work much easier.

...but if I could...I'd do Brown and Navy all day.

You can do black/brown and make it look nice.

Like someone said, black top, brown pants, black shoes is what I usually go with... you know, if I NEED to wear those brown jeans.

I (think I) look shitty in navy, so I can't attest to that working.

I always thought black and blue was a weird combo.
