a doe, a deer

Work by Martina Fugazzotto and Kelly Lynn Jones

Curator and Press Release by: Chako Suzuki

When February creeps up, we know warmer weather is just around the corner. Artists Martina Fugazzotto and Kelly Lynn tiptoe to the doorway of spring and take a peek in to see what’s in store for the season. Their kooky paintings and drawings draw inspiration from children’s books and nursery rhymes and are guaranteed to lift your spirits at the end of our oh-so-dreary SoCal winter. Magpie and curator, Chako Suzuki, proudly present their art and handmade goodies in the upcoming show, "a doe, a deer".

Come steal a look at spring at the opening night reception on Saturday, February 26 from 7:00 until 11:00 pm. The opening is absolutely free, and afterwards head on over to the Whistlestop Bar for a drink with friends! Magpie is located at 2205 Fern St. in South Park, San Diego. As always, there will be hot artwork, handmade goodies, and haute vintage clothes and accessories to buy, so gather your funds (credit cards and cash accepted). The show will run until March 23, 2005.

Martina Martina is an illustrator living, working, and drinking hot chocolate in Brooklyn, NY, where she dreams of all the beautiful California days she's missing out on. Inspired by her longing to be a charming Parisian from 1968, Martina draws and paints the sweetest situations she can think of. She currently works as a graphic designer for the online teen community gURL.com. For more please visit http://www.martinamartina.com.

Kelly Lynn Jones graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 2002. She has exhibited in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, San Diego, Los Angeles, Austin, Detroit, Portland, OR., and Bristol, England. She likes to make up little stories for each painting. She gets her inspiration from children's books, patterns, animals, and old family photographs. You can view Kelly's paintings at www.kellylynnjones.com. She also just started an online boutique, http://www.littlepaperplanes.com, where you can see her handmade goodies.

About Magpie

Artist couple, David and Meegan Cuzick mulled over of the idea of opening a hybrid gallery and boutique for over a year. Lots of brainstorming, buying, and hammering later, Magpie was born - its moniker a twist on Meegan's name and an ode to their fascination with birds. David built up the space and Meegan lovingly plucks each vintage item for the store to make visiting Magpie an experience and not just a shopping trip.
