I like Dior as much as the next man, but I think this is pure hype...for under $400 one can get much better selvedge dark denim jeans made in Japan. For example I don't think the quality of Dior denim can possibly compare to, say, 45 RPM.

Now that I have these and have been wearing them, I can say that the quality of the denim is shit. It has a smooth hand, no slub at all, and is very light ounce-wise, I want to say even 11oz, perhaps much less. Bit worried as to how these will look in a few months time. Wild theory but I think that the non-selvedge models have better quality denim than these.

I bought them just wanting Diors and mine being the only size 29 raw that the store had left that I've seen in 3 different countries I've been to this year, then noticed the selvage after I'd brought them home and had them on. Considering Diors aren't even a jean to turn up at the bottoms, I don't even really know what the point is.

I envy you guys living anywhere I'm not right now, these cost a damn fortune in Asia.

ps eluxury lists these as being made in Italy, but I believe that is an error, mine are Japanese.

its not a wild theory at all that some selvage jeans have worse quality than none selvage. in fact it has been proven to be so several times. i too think this is just hype but, relying on your info, if they were the same quality as the non selvage jeans i would easily pay 50 dollars more just for the selvage. what can i do its the only hype that got me i think. that and furby's

yeah the markup on Dior jeans make them pretty fucking expensive in Japan and Hong Kong (still expensive in Shanghai, but not quite as ridiculous as the other two places). Especially for the washed models...

If there's no slub then that's a bad sign, my non-selvedge Japanese Diors are really slubby (actually, the washed Japanese models are even slubbier - don't know if you've seen them in person but they're slubbier than a lot of Japanese denim brands' jeans I've seen). They don't produce much contrast, but they fade evenly with a nice rugged look that's not quite the 80's stonewash 'mom' jeans look...much better than APCs or regular Levi's I've seen that have gone through frequent washes. After a year and a half of wear they still look quite dark in the sunlight (almost brand new), but upon closer inspection there's some nice imperfections like vertical wear on the slubs, small patches of really light indigo seeping through and bits of fraying here and there.

I am about to get a pair of those Brut Nostalgy off Luisaviaroma if they're what I'm looking for; the pair that go for 170 Euro are listed as being black, which is what I want, but the picture shows them as being blue. What's the story on these?

I really like the Dior cut, but F/W06 has a bunch of weird colored drill trousers like those pistachio green jobs, and those higher-waisted black overdyed buckle jeans. Not really into those. I might get those cords though, I have liked those for awhile now...

if you choose the black, they will send you the black. despite the fact that they're pictured as blue.

It is a cool idea but Dior Homme should really, really make their denim cheaper. The selvage should sell for the price of raw Japanese denim and raw Japanese denim should sell for the price of raw Italian denim and the raw Italian denim should be even cheaper.

i didn't think slubby = quality. Not that I'm saying these are quality. But isn't the current hype about "ooooh looky how super slubby my jeans are " are having people think that means non-slubby is not as good. Don't some brands singe their jeans to make them look smoother?

This is true. My girlfriend manages an Express and they have jeans that are dark and ultra slubby. The texture almost feels like PBJ, but not as tough and rugged. The quality is crap though.

I can see this point. I guess I just wanted to point out that these jeans in particular are so smooth that I am a bit curious as to how they will wear in and look down the road. I took a picture trying to show how tightly done and un-dimensional the waft thread is on these. On the left is the Dior, the right side are some APC's, for reference.
