Doing the inseam and outseam would be the only way to have a true taper because when altered it should taper in from both sides. If it only tapers in from one seam it may look a little off.

There's also the option of instead of ripping out the inseam part, to take it in with a line of sewing right along the edge of that part, very close, ont he side where there's a lottle folded bit sticking out, so that the seam could hide out there.

I think I am going to give this a shot with my skinners as the flair is just far too annoying and its keeping me from wearing them these days.

I am worried about lining up where to start taking in the "bell bottom". Last time I attempted this it looked a bit "pinched" right where I started taking them in.
