Was reading about the looming expiration of Pfizer's patent on Viagra when it occurred to me that big pharma essentially derives a huge percentage of its profits treating 1st world problems.

Lipitor - treats high cholesterol caused by poor diet, obesity & lack of exercise.

Lyrica - Treats neuropathic pain in appendages caused by diabetes.

Viagra - Treats erectile disfunction which can be caused by side effects of anti-depressants, age, diabetes.

Nexium - Treats heartburn which can be caused by poor diet & diabetes.

Plavix - Prevent stroke/heart attack due to poor diet, obesity & those at high risk (aka those living that 1st world lifestyle y0)

i've been hearing sirens all night in london and had to come back earlier because everything was closing. what's sad is that the rioters target honest people's places, shops and buildings. working class people targeting working class interests is stupid. i've seen hoodies looking for trouble in the streets which i can understand, boredom, living conditions and whatnot, but that's not how you do it...

and they keep showing that burning building in Croydon on tv like it was the main event.

i just hope it ends quickly or turns into something good.

Seriously, it's been pretty bad in Croydon tonight from what I can tell. That furniture shop has been there for over 140 years and the street it's on is even named after it. There's a photo of a woman jumping from a burning building there too.

I've been arguing with people tonight, YES they're criminals etc, but why in particular is this specific group looting and rioting? They're obviously disaffected, you aren't seeing groups of middle class teenagers rioting.
