Thinking of just starting to wear these raw straight up...

vs soaking in cold water before I wear them is this gonna be a problem for fade/wear?

no, they aren't sanforized. you need to soak them warm(40*C) to shrink them the right amount.

If you do a cold soak now and then wash them warm after a couple months they will shrink again and the wear marks will move.

Okay, thanks. Sorry dont usually read superdenim and know shit all about denim (obviously). Just grabbed these `coz I got a job where I can wear whatever I want so I thought I might as well break in some decent jeans..

I like em a little loose so cold soak now then cold wash in 6 months is okay?

What about no soak now and then cold wash in 6 months? The wear marks would move then? Thanks in advance.

yeah, you can go with cold soak and wash, but then you won't be able to wash them warm if they get really dirty. they also won't fade quite as much if you wash them cold, decide for yourself if that is good or bad.

if you wear them raw and soak them cold later on the wear marks will move a little but I don't think it will be that noticeable.

I'd suggest you exchange them for a larger size if you still can, and soak the new pair in warm water.

I`m trying to actually try an get some budgeting happening lately so I asked myself if I could only have 1 pair of jeans for the next 5 years what would they be? From looking through the Japanese denim threads the samurais stood out. Since i`m in Japan too might as well take advantage. These things are ridiculously stiff! I think I`ll just wear em raw just so I can start now..might soak em later

Thanks for your info horibly. appreciate it/you need Japan hookups PM me.

if you don't soak them right away the length will shrink up two to three inches and will twist in a little bit. if you put a lot of heavy wear into these before you soak or wash them some of the wear marks will move, most noticably the honeycombs.

if you soak them they won't be as hard and they will do most of the shrinking. you might need to spray some starch on them if you want them really stiff again but you will still get all the same wear marks.

if you wore them for a couple months and then soaked you'd be okay but the creases you started might not necessarily be in the same spot or reform in the same spot again.

Especially if you're thinking about wearing your jeans over the next five years, you might want to think about at least soaking it in the beginning. It's called "noriotoshi" -- soaking and/or washing will get rid of all the crap they used when constructing the jeans that actually hurt your jeans over course of time.

Also, might want to be careful about not washing too long as you go because all the oil and sweat from you will also eat away at the denim. (Of course, washing too often, as everyone here knows, will fade the denim, too. So you don't want to over-wash, as well.)

Just thoughts.
