Just looking to get some general opinions of which are some of the nicer areas for living as well as being cheap/reasonably priced.

I live in the 3rd district, very nice & central but the prices rose during the past 3 years, still you may find decent rents depending on the areas.

the eleventh district is also quite interesting and cheaper, generally speaking.

I think you would like the following neighbourhoods, (listed in number arrond.)

2/3/9/10/11/12/17/18/19/20

I would choose 11/12/19/20 for price, fun, great markets, bars and restaurants. You willl get a bigger home too.

I have left out the snobby, expensive and overpriced areas, e.g. 4th, the heart of the Marais and the Latin Quarter 5/6 & include 7 too in that. For instance cafes will eat into even a Saudi Princesse's budget, the supermarkets are crap and very over-priced.

i have to agree with ivyparis on this one. if you want a fun, "cheap" place you have to go for the east of paris. multicultural, a lot of life, a lot of intersting concerts,...
