Shorts thread - redux

So I've been struggling with my summer wardrobe, mostly because I find it's a stark contrast against the contemporary, slightly more forward nature of my winter wardrobe (long coats, dark colours, some draped fabrics, etc.)

I'm hoping to avoid falling into the Americana thing - which is pulled off incredibly well by many members of this forum - and focus more on making my summer and winter wardrobe slightly more cohesive.

This seems like a jump-off point for discussing summer options that don't look like something out of the APC lookbook.

My current go-to shorts is a pair of Robert Geller cutoff jean shorts, and I wore them 5 days a week last summer. I need a change.

Any and all input is, as always, apprciated.

imo simple works best with shorts--- the other aspects of the outfit make the look--- the shorts are secondary.

these fred perry shorts http://www.jdsports.co.uk/product/fred-perry-utility-cargo-short/15215/

or some chino with an oxford/flannel + leather jacket + high socks + whatever shoe you prefer --- make for a good alternative to the college cliche look.

also i love the button up + mesh-shorts look

picked up these shorts at a little hole-in-the-wall shop in Berkeley (on Haste, I think, just below Telegraph). Made by an SF company called Red Clay. I haven't had the opportunity to wear them much but I think they're pretty rad:

you could look into, Chronicles of Never, there a relatively progressive label coming out of Australia which probably meets the aesthetic look your going for. or maybe look at damir doma or their new silent range shorts???

you could also try:

but most of the ones at opening ceremony are pretty preppy!

I'm going to be wearing these this summer. Best part is that they can do double-duty, working well in and out of the water.

hell no.

i can do that shit myself and it would cost way less if i wanted some paint splattered cutoff shorts.

It's even better when it's real. Don't buy short make them.

I'll also put the obvious uniqlo in - they've got great slim fit, tho they seem to be a bit longer than those featured here (they fall just above the knee)

vibskov makes some pretty nice shorts
i need to cop some sweatshorts this summer

dunno if you were sarcastic, but I really like that. Saw the aWang ones and they looked really good.

womens shorts are more interesting that what we can find in the men sections (with a few exceptions)

the shorts from cdgblack are really cool and nice. theres some complexgeometries shorts that are great too (cotton and linen). there's always ro/drkshdw/lilies too.

the ones that HAMA posted on the first page are goood

its quite easy to make a pair for yourself too.
