just read a UN report saying that the floods in pakistan caused more damage than the sri-lanka tsunami, the 2008 earthquake, and the haiti earthquake combined

Spent a good part of the day working at a donation center set up outside one of the high end supermarkets in karachi.

The money collected would go to purchasing these ration kits, everything a family would need for the cost of 3000 rupees per kit (86.7rupees=1usd)

Went to a local culture/music festival,

Saw two dudes with televisions as heads:

Some young mime's

IMG00042-20100730-2043.jpg

Saw a powertool-race, didn't compete however.

IMG00038-20100730-1732.jpg

A really cool gipsy band

IMG00046-20100801-2253.jpg

Played some dice at a friend's place

IMG00057-20100807-2340.jpg

And returned homewards when it got light again

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton encouraged Americans to donate $10 to Pakistan flood relief by texting "SWAT" to 50555. Clinton said the funds would be used by the United Nations to provide food, water, medicine, tents and clothing to affected families.

-this is the easiest way and the article (below) has a list of other reputable agencies

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/02/pakistan-flood-victims-ne_n_667303.html

in this article Oxfam is pretty good, also acumen fund bullet point is great to. My uncle works there and the company has a great reputation for effectively improving the lives of pakistanis living below the poverty line. If possible dont donate to a agency with political ties or it will end up in corrupt government officials pockets

It's comical that we post frequently to this forum, when we don't vary our outfits much ! I'm basically all about jeans and Ts, with jackets/IH shirt jackets thrown into the mix for warmth. The Tee is hard to read but it says "Oakland Vintage". Here I am today :

Today Me, the jeans and my daughter went to see my Nan, like we do a couple of times a week. I'm very close to my Nan since my Mum and Dad worked a lot when I was young so she has basically brought me up, even buying me my first pair of Evisus at 15, haha.

So the day has finally come that she is moving out of the house I grew up in from a 2 year old. Even worse for her, she's been in this house for 50 years plus! I just hope she enjoys her new house (which is 30 minutes away rather than 5 minutes now) and she settles in fast.

Me Nan (83) and Shi (2) outside the happiest house I've ever been in.

Yea I know. Just the ease of seeing her whenever I wanted and not ever going to that house again is going to be strange.

The drive to see her at her new place won't bother me. An 80 mile round trip to work for the last 5 years has made me a robot driver, just suck them miles in like nothing, haha.

It's always strange seeing the houses you grew up in years later. I've looked up 2 of the houses I lived in as a kid and they're nearly unrecognizable to me now.

^ Dude let us know if you have recommendations of an emergency-aid organization to donate to.

Also check out MercyCorps as well. They are based here in Portland. I know quite a few folks who work for them in a variety of capacities and can definitely vouch for their short term effectiveness and their long term vision in all the places they work.

(Sorry I don't have any photos, but I figured this is worthwhile.)

On Monday (8/16/10) I headed out to NJ to meet up with Vinneus, tvshooter, and his girl Sarah. All three of us got trimmed up by Vin...

IMG_3075.jpg

After my cut, Vin wanted to show me some of the NJ landmarks so we hit up the Westfield Mall...

IMG_3081.jpg

Damn, food in a cup from a kiosk in the mall...

IMG_3082.jpg

Went into the J. Crew Men's Shop in the mall and spotted one of Rin's books...

IMG_3083.jpg

Can't say I was impressed by the quality of the Indy's they were selling...

IMG_3084.jpg

Crazy thunderstorm hit while we were inside...

IMG_3086.jpg

Sat down to eat some Wetzel's Pretzels when all of a sudden I spotted the face of God from the imprint of my ass... Oh wait that is just TFH Arcs.

IMG_3087.jpg

As we drove back into the city I was very tempted to make Vin stop at NJ's #1 landmark... Satin Dolls aka Bada Bing! or "The Bing"

Had a couple of friends/bands play some sets in my basement. Had about 30 kids show up to hang out, all in all it was pretty fun.

My friend molly came over early and made a shit ton of popcorn, from left to right the bowls are basic and garlic, salt and butter, kettlecorn style with cane sugar, brown sugar and butter.

P1010703.JPG

Cooked the way it should be, in a shit load of butter on a stove top.

P1010702.JPG

My friend mat is moving out of his apartment and brought over all of the unfinished booze in his house. Him and I are both whiskey guys; Glenfiddich, Old Overhault, and Jim Beam

At the request of the Creator...i'll X post my daily exploits from the WT thread here as well

Began our afternoon here, little one in tow, looking for some stuff for the kitchen. Been in need of new knives as ours are 3 years old and not the finest quality (they're Japanese, but not very rugged and I want something that will endure a bit more abuse in the kitchen). So we went to wander Grand Ave. in our city of St. Paul. There's a great home kitchen shop, Cooks of Crocus Hill here, which supplies anything that the wealthy neighborhood it occupies could ever desire...

4911085647_4b9f0476f1_z.jpg

My wife hadn't bought any clothing for this upcoming season yet, and she wanted to check out some boutique shops along the Ave. first place we stopped was Karma, a pretty cool women's store with a small collection of local and midwest designers which are all reasonably priced, but not very good quality, didn't see anything of interest in there...

4911085435_c5c6211334_z.jpg

next we went to a spot called Hot Mama, which has a small maternity section (as the name implies). apparently the woman who owns the store had a terrible shopping experience at Nordstrom, while trying to shop with her young child (anybody who's a parent and reading this can agree I'm sure) and decided to open her own store complete with a children's play area, a maternity section, and really damn cool women's clothes. This is where all the thin, hot, young to mid aged married women in the affluent Summit Ave. neighborhood shop, yet the prices range from very affordable to quite spendy, a great job on the owner's part on bringing in product that caters to a wide range of wallets. the affordable side is what draws my wife, who found two great sweaters and a top for this fall. (I dissuaded her from buying a $200 pair of denim that wasn't ANYTHING special at all...told her to get a pair of Geisha's instead)

4911687552_aca59b73fa_z.jpg

I was waiting for my wife to show me clothes when a woman noticed my camera and asked if I was a photographer, i went through my whole story about this and that, and turns out she was a 25 year veteran photojournalist from the Twin Cities, had a great conversation with her, and she complimented my wife on her "great boyfriend jeans, where are those from??" to which i got to tell the story of the 3001 world tour, what it was, how many places the pants have been, etc. She didn't really get it, but she thought it was really cool from a documentary perspective, which i appreciated.

the jeans,

4911687290_49d5fbdc21_z.jpg

my ugly mug

4911687100_ea3da9bfdb_z.jpg

went to our friendly neighborhood J. Crew, they didn't have any of the F/W mens shit in stock yet, which pissed me off. and my wife didn't find anything great either, its a pretty small store...little S did find a hat she wanted,

4911686938_9639ddae49_z.jpg

and they had some bizarre literature,

4911686542_99ecf4bcd1_z.jpg

Then we went to another cool women's shop, Picky Girl, which again disappointed, though they had a great dress that I may swing back over and pick up as a surprise for the wife!

4911686092_2c13d2d33f_z.jpg

this reminded me of the Nip / Tuck intro. for some reason...

4911685690_706b975d8c_z.jpg

Last shopping stop was a toy store for little S

continued, X posted from the 3001 WT thread.

The kid in me saw the potential fun in this cool little train set....

4911082677_4ebf1e1f7d_z.jpg

She wanted a doll house...so we left with a Yo-Yo, I'm gonna teach her as she grows up.

4911684994_6ae8f7d767_z.jpg

On the way home we stopped at MY favorite Twin Cities ice cream shot Izzy's. I went to University around the corner from here, so i've been going here for the past 6 years. it is a great little place that has the most amazing rotating menu of flavors.

4911081791_dee1cc9faf_z.jpg

each time is a different visit. but today they did have my favorite combination, Soy Chocolate with Orange Sherbet...

4911684578_e5ea8657d9_z.jpg

H got some blueberry, and S got a strawberry kid cone
