Oldboy Remake?

Steven Spielberg is in talks to do a "remake" of the 2003 cult hit Oldboy. The film is to star Will Smith as the protagonist. Actually this isn't entirely accurate, as the pair are claiming it's an interpretation of the original manga comic, not a remake of the film. Is anyone else having a hard time picturing Steven Spielberg staying true to the dark nature of this story, as the last thing we really saw from him was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

I think casting Big willie styles is a worse idea than Spielberg directing. Who knows though, I thought I am Legend turned out well.
