Dyeing levis without dyeing the red tab?

I have some dye, need to dye some black levis to restore their original colour. Going to use the dye in the washing mashine as instructed. Will the rear patch get dyed (non leather)? And will the red tab get dyed? If so, hjow to I prevent this from happening?

thanks

Is this just normal handwash water dye??? -

The red tab - er yah! It will - imagine what would happen to a piece of red cotton if you put it into dye - it would change to the colour of the dye..... ergo the red cotton tab thats attached to your back pocket will also change colour....

Maybe unstitch and re apply is you have to have a bright red tab....

If I recall correctly, the red tab is made out of polyester so if you use normal dye it won't be affected at all. I used power Rit Dye for a pair of 501 STFs and the red tab and stitching was completely unaffected.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: I took off the patch before I dyed it so I have no idea what will happen to that.
