actually, jmatsu, that role in Showgirls was probably really hard for the producers to cast. name actresses were probably offered the role, but passed because the script sucked plus the nudity, etc. elizabeth berkeley was trying to break out of her Jessie Spano persona and probably thought that would be a good way to break the mold. and in a way she succeeded.

but you are right about there being degrees. for example, for Black Snake Moan, Christina Ricci sent the director a bunch of semi-pornographic photographs of herself to convince him she wasn't just a good girl. She got the role, and it was probably her best performance in a film to date.
