so in a nutshell it is just a platform for escapism. not saying that it doesn't serve a purpose...

yeah jmat right on the head, people always look forward to the after life and such.

btw- I'm Christian and been through a process where I pretty much questioned everything when I was 12-15. Just can't take everything in the bible literal , at the end of the day I do believe there is a God.

Black folks have loved polo since forever, my dad came to this country in the early 70's and caught on to some polo, then my older brother rocked it in the early 80's and i wanted to be just like him so i picked it up in the late 80's. The shit is just so classic, how can you hate on it?

I have never smoked a thing in my life, weed/cig/etc, so i wouldn't know

my family is somewhat paid so i don't know about SSI

This is the first time i've heard it refered to as cock, sounds a little homo to me, we have dozens of names for it(skins, beats, box, pie, snatch) but cock is not one of em

pretty sure ya boy sleazie was just messin.

Because you should know as well as any, so many strive to achieve the "american dream" and they assimilate anglo-saxon ideals, religion being one of the most major ones i suppose, why do you think english is spoken in so many places that it wasnt' present in a few centuries agos

well take the chinese in america. compared to other immigrants those people have been in the u.s. for a longass time. from what i've read and accounts from chinese friends, their people had it pretty hard. compared to african americans, there are way less chinese-americans into christianity.

language is a communication tool, while religion is a set of ideals.

Yeah the Chinese went through the struggle, but nothing similar to African Americans. Their country or continent wasn't split up for foreign powers to just take over everything. Let me go on a limb here and say African Americans back in the days always wanted to be viewed as equal or right next to the white man. It wasn't only physical abuse and torement that took place it was also psychological. The effects of slavery is still present today no doubt.

actually my country beat the fuck outta china at once point,

and many other superpowers have ravished the middle kingdom (not just by acts of declared or unofficial guerrila war).

don't get me wrong, i know what yr saying, but it's all due to exploitation by a foreign element. and i am sure most people know this...so why the need to continue this religion? obviously various individuals have their own reasons.

On the real though, Africans brought Capoeira to Brazil via the slave trade. Some other ones are on wikipedia (mostly various forms of wrestling and stick fighting).

I don't know if this is true, because I live in Canada, but why don't black teens like old hip hop? From my experience on hip hop forums, it always seemed like black kids were only on that new-new, whereas white kids usually get into tribe, wu tang, dre, jay-z, kanye, and wayne all at the same time, whereas it seems like black teenagers more often get into stuff more like Fab, Wayne, etc or at least they did a couple years ago when I was more interested in what other people thought about hip hop. Matter of fact, how do black kids get into music now? Is BET still respected?

These days in Canada hip hop is a pretty niche genre, in Toronto there is only one non-college radio station that plays it, but also mixed with dancehall and rnb. So I don't really know the difference in exposure except from what I've seen from my time in the states, but it seems to still have a lot more radio play and attention in the media overall.

Because most black teens are influenced greatly by mainstream music portrayed on TV , most dont want or care about previous hiphop history. I dont know I see this as an constant cycle sometimes like people dont listen to Jazz anymore, but miles davis is still played and such. I would say people are not grasping music, this is the internet age yo could pretty much find any type of music ,or hiphop for instance on the web. Like I said before they are just stuck in the mainstream bubble. They dont care about 9th , dilla, premo etc kind of beats they see that as old school. But people who arent black sometimes hold up that type of music, it'sall about personal preference I guess. I'm the type of person who could listen to anything and appreciate it musically somehow I dont shun the mainstream records , they are meant to make people move in parties/clubs and hiphop was kind of started on that. I just want to see an overall balance and not an oversaturation of the same music, but on different beats. After sometime it does get repetitive and boring. Sorry If im just rambling here.

edit - BET is still respected for coming out playing only black music where other channels were not at all. Now its all different I remember you could never see black people on VH1 now you see black people in coonery shows acting up, its funny sometimes lol ill admit then i shake my head lol . BET is pretty much MTV and VH1 they are all owned by the same company Viacom, I respect BET for what they did at first , but where theyre going is not a good look, its all about the $$$ at the end of the day I guess.

i just love music
