Jeez.. I'm like the total opposite - I rarely win live (well I'm almost always runner up, but in my circle, it's winner takes all) but I almost always finish in the money online (I refuse to play cash games online.. the bad beats I've encountered are too much for me to handle).

unless your already a great live player, you will go a long time losing money until you find out how to win money. i'm still on my losing streak online... lost around 1.5k since december 2006... live play i've been doing great but thats mostly home live games $40 buy in cash game..

Party Poker is where all the fishies swim.

Last summer, instead of working I played poker. Made a huge bankroll thanks to Party Poker and Poker Room.. switched to Full Tilt and went bust within a week.

Anyone play?

I've been playing for about 5 years...

I used to play 3-4x a week now I play a few times a month unfortunately...

In casinos I play $1/$2 No limit. I live in New Jersey so Atlantic City is not that far from me...

I tend to win in casinos, but not too much.

The home game I used to dominate weekly, (making more there than at my day job)

I love the competetion of the game, its my mind vs everyone elses.

Sure luck plays a part, but reading players, making them make decisions, making the right decisions at the right time... its a great mental challenge, and the pay off is $... this is why I find it so fun.

Anyone else out there?

I am a dealer at the card room here and I play semi professional online but just tournament poker, I can give you my username for sharkscope if you want to check my stats they are pretty great. I have a couple of friends who are full time pros.

I deal more $1/$2 NLH and $5/$5 NLH than anything else.

I disagree that luck plays a part though. Sure in ONE particular hand it's luck. But if you're playing the same limit over the course of 50,000 hands (which isn't as many as you might think I played 300,000 online last year) your skill is reflected and nothing else. Yeah you can run poorly but not for 50,000 hands.

thats only if you dont know how to play cash games

multi-tabling 50 cent - dollar allowed my friend to drop out of college cause he avg 800-1000 a day playing 6-7 hrs. it does take a lotta work though. if you half ass at all, youll never be a winning player.

i play on pokerstars, they accept eChecks now as a form of payment which is relaly easy, otherwise just buy a visa gift card from your local supermarket and use that...

i've been playing alot more recently, there was a deposit bonus code that expired last month (free $50, for 750 FPP, which is free money, is free money)... currently since that deposit about 10 days ago, playing .25/.50 .50/1.00 NL ive been up almost 300... and am going to continue to keep going

its alot of fun

I play on pokerroom and have an affiliate account set up. Anytime someone signs up and deposits through me I get $50.00 at the end of the month. I'm sure we could swing a deal where anyone who signs up through me can split my affiliate money with me. When I get it I can just send them a $25.00 gift voucher on pokerroom. You need to earn so many player points before the money clears so you can't simply deposit and then cash out and earn your $25.00 you do actually have to play. Personally I like pokerroom the most because the competition is weeeeeak. Here's the link anyway : http://www.pokerroom.com/?ref=40169

Currently I am trying to turn $20.00 into $8,000. I have a bigger bankroll than this but the money is so I can move to Toronto, which is a fairly expensive city to live in compared to where I am living now. I want to prove to myself that when I get there if something goes horribly wrong I can turn nothing into a lot of money. It's a pretty long and boring grind but I am up to $71.00 after a week playing $2.00 turbos.

Also check out www.pocketfives.com for tournament strategies they have some serious good articles on being a pro tournament player, paying taxes on your winnings etc.

Looking to get into online gambling. I'm in Canada and would mainly be interested in online poker and sports betting.

Looking for good promos and legit sites where i can sorta learn the ropes and start to take it more serious

i have some friends who were serious into it (and one even pro) that i havent talked to in some time. I remember them mentioning some pokerstats tracking programs , just wondering if there was any way to get them for free (PM if you must)

I am currently playing on www.pokerroom.com

The ongame network is super soft. Avoid Full Tilt Poker if you are just starting out, although it is the BEST online poker room, it also has the strongest competition. Homi when I get to Toronto we should start a weekly sufu hold'em game. That would be sick.

Also, I can you get you pokertracker for free, and I have a PokerAce hud serial you can use if you want too. Those programs are both super valueable if you are serious about playing online poker, although HUD doesn't work on the site I play on currently.

What do you consider high stakes?

I was thinking something like.

$0.25/$0.50 no limit hold'em nights

and $0.25/$0.50 - $0.50/$1.00 pot limit omaha nights

yoooo homi.

I've been using www.pinnaclesports.com for the past year sports betting. I emptied it before i left for NZ though and now i'm betting at the bookies here ... was working for a bit but quit cause im making more money bettin on baseball than i was working. (I never even watched let alone gambled on baseball before i came out here but i'm into it now... even though i cant watch any of the games... the moneys been alrite to me)

But pinnacle has real good odds. And i'll be refilling it immediately as i step foot in canada. I started out with online poker but said fuck it cause i'd always get bad beats.

By the way whats pokertracker and pokerhud?

I used to play online in college and law school. Then a friend of mine showed me a program he bought that allows you to see everyone else's hands at the table - something to do with a combination of hacking each individual user's connection and pokerstar at the same time. The program was like 3k but he made that while I was watching him play for two hours. The problem was that he had to buy a program for each site he uses, and the cites catch you eventually. Haven't played a game online since that day.

We have a killer Thanksgiving Weekend game with my old high school friends, 20 of us play for about 40 hours straight in my friend's parent's basement. Thursday night after dinner until sometime Saturday. Just like high school. Everyone comes home to their parent's. Except when we all got jobs, the higher stakes made it more interesting. Around the beginning of October every year I start getting excited for it. This thread just kick started that a little early.

I play and tend to dominate in my local friend circles mostly because they don't have the patience to grind out a game that last several hours. Haven't experienced casino play much but I'm fairly confident in my skills. Any tips? The local casinos here suck and the big ones are all 21+

I used to play at Full Tilt. The problem with playing online is it was to convenient, I would waste hours cooped up in the basement infront of the pc. I dont know about people hacking your client and being able to see your cards but I do know forsure people colude together to whipsaw 1 or 2 players at the table. Other than that online play is ridiculously streaky and isnt for people that dont have good discipline or get put on tilt easily.

bottom line is that online poker "helpers" are way too advanced for anyone to be playing without them these days. In addition to giving you your percentage odds, the top of the line software actually keeps server-side records of every hand played at every table of the users. This means that the software actually builds up databases of information on your opponents and analyzes their playing style, based on the data gathered by all the users of the software.

it's pretty crazy shit and more than enough for me to never want to play online poker.

besides, I use a mac, and the software's not compatible. ha.
