Dear style / trend blogs, please stop sucking so much dick

Recommended Posts

As I'm sure is the same for many of the other regular posters on here, there are a handful of well designed, regularly updated, (semi?) professional style / trend blogs that I check every now and then to see what shiny new sneakers, t-shirts and other crap I can expect to be throwing my money away on in the coming weeks and months. Some of the blogs are better than others in that they have more content or get better info first, but almost all of them have proven to worth bookmarking and checking daily cause these guys know their shit cold.

There's just one problem though: 90% of them seem to be unable to stop sucking dick. With maybe one or two exceptions, almost none of them ever seem to want to say anything critical about anything. That hideous Huf AT1 is a prime example. The worst thing I saw outside of this forum was "interesting colorway." The things are so fucking ass-ugly that you couldn't pay a colorblind eastern European circus clown to wear them, but nobody wanted to criticize in case it got the Huf guys all pissed off at them and they stopped getting free shit. Another example is shit like Twelve Bar getting attention from everyone despite not having put out a single interesting or innovative design yet. (From what I've seen, the jury's still out on whether they ever will.) The final straw was that collabo between One True Saxon and The Glade. A totally pedestrian jacket that is going to be put out in a limited run of 30. Big. Fucking. Deal. Yet it was on at least three blogs within half a day of being announced

So yeah, while I get that style can be subjective and personal and all that (I still hate Visvim, even though loads of people with otherwise impeccable taste seem to have a blind spot there icon_smile_big.gif )...I also get that dogshit is still dogshit. If you don't like something, don't be afraid to say it. If it's undeniably bad, don't hype it.

What I can't stand is that all these blogs on the net complain about the abundance of new brand companies coming out... but do they notice the abundance of blogs reporting the same bullshit news as everyone else?

Show some respect. It costs you almost nothing to operate a blog while these new brands your disecting are costing the owners and operators thousands of dollars and hours of work.

I agree with you, most of the "Hype" type blogs do suck a fat one. I tend to write about what I like. If I'm not feeling something, I probably won't mention it. The lack of Nike posts on my site for example.

Should I be the first to start an ALL HATE streetwear / fasion blog? That might be kind of fun, just hating on everything that drops.

I call dibs and/or copyrights on that idea by the way.

Here's my first entry for TragicBliss' Hate Blog:

Why do people wear buckleback jeans? I think they look crappy, and I would hate feeling that buckle digging into me every time I sat down. Don't tell me they can adjust for stretch because I have had those kinds of straps on the hips of military-style pants, and it doesn't work.

Bah.

hey, that was fun!

i hate the new undefeated dunk - the ugliest colour combo i have ever seen: brown leather, luminous green sole and dark purple??!! and they still sell out.

Just out of curiosity, which blogs do you visit?? i am pretty limited to coolhunting, the brilliance and a couple of others. Gimme some more to check out....

Thank you! Those things truly are some of the ugliest I've ever seen.

These are all worth bookmarking / grabbing the RSS feeds and checking. At least two of them (maybe more?) are maintained by people who post on here.

Edit: just to be clear (and cause I don't want to hurt anyone's feewings)...these are all quality sites. I did have one or two of them in mind when I started this thread cause they never seem to have anything even remotely negative to say about anything, but that doesn't mean that they're not up on shit...just that they're not haters icon_smile_big.gif
