it's really not that hard to find torrents online.

i've never used demonoid or oink or any of those and have found everything i've ever needed.

just google "(thing you want) torrent" and you're fine.

searching: "thing you want" torrent

is better.

"thing you want" ext:torrent

or

"thing you want" filtetype:torrent

If its music, there are better operators to use, but you're all smart dudes so it shouldn't be too tough.

In other news I went on What.cd at 4am today and found a pop-upo from the RIAA, which apparently hacked them, leaving a message that "we have your information" and "your sentence will be halved if you turnh yourself in"

What's currently set to brb, and apparently it isn't a big deal because their server's in Sweden or something. Still, it's scary how fast RIAA is going after this. I can't wait to see how they deal when people start setting up servers in the Cayman islands.

Torrent game might be done. I wouldn't be surprised if the RIAA / Copyright nazis hit hard and fast this time, they might be trying to beat the whole "for every one you take down we'll make three" system. I don't think they will, but I wouldn't be surprised.

What.cd has been a joke so far. It's been down two out of every three times I go to look for something. Probably more often than that, even.

Piratebay people are working on a new distribution form by my understanding. Conceptually like torrents I believe, but they seem to think that it's the next step.

You can encrypt torrents and make users pretty much undetectable. It's been available for some time now and some people use it. Torrent game won't die. Torrents will just grow into personal networks that will still work on the same protocol. Sooner than later RIAA will give up cause they won't be able to keep up or they won't get enough funding or both. I also predict that in 10 years copyrights on digital audio/video will either disappear or become obsolete.

Pisexy is still going strong, granted it's just movies/TV/Etc. Still a great place for that.

Also, I still use DC++. Can find most, but not all of what I look for.

Torrents are ok but the best shit is the old skool FTP sites from the IRC days. Get yourself on a private FTP with 0 sec and 0day access and you''ll never download from a torrent again.

And yup, thank god for Canada because we don't have an RIAA organization type that sues 50 year moms for downloading 10 mp3's.

Could you elaberate on this?

http://www.oil21.org/ (intellectual property as the oil of the 21st century)

(amen break, sampling, idea of copyright reconsidered-18mins)

http://creativecommons.org/about/ (good alternative/sol'n--middle ground between copyright and public domain)

honestly, i do not think that the current situation with copyrights will naturally or eventually fall away. industry lobbyists will continue to get ignorant and short-sighted politicians on their side to uphold if not out-right have the white house serve their interests (see Steal This Film).

to get this stuff done, to really dismantle the current form of copyright laws/enforcement, folks really have to get organized...and most of all the public along w/ politicians have to be informed about what exactly the debate is...this is already happening in sweden apparently. it could happen in the US esp since RIAA is still in the process of suing single mums who earn 30k/year.

honestly it's just becoming too difficult to maintain. it's becoming less and less viable to enforce a lot of copyrights than it is to let that take care of itself. honestly there are better solutions out there...

honestly copyrights/enforcement of copyright on digital video and audio wasnt a good idea in the first place. i'm all for making money but the shit is just fucking impossible. it's difficult to privatize these goods...always. before the internet there was taping. before taping there was crowdin around a bunch of people to watch one teevee set. before that poor people only heard (free) folk music and saw local (extremely cheap or free) shows.
