Hong Kong Gangster

My favorite gangster movies are French, directed by Jean-Pierre Melville. Watch Le Samourai (1967), Le Deuxième Souffle (1966) and Le Cercle Rouge 1970). My absolute favorite gangster movies. As mentionned, Kitano's movies are also very good, but let's not forget John Woo (The Killer is his most famous, but I actually prefer A Better Tomorrow), Tsui Hark 5time and Tide), Johnny To (The Mission) or Andrew Lau (Infernal Affairs). Other than Melville's, Hong Kong gangsters movies are my favorite.

I would say no as this is likely Takeshi's WORST film.

I personally liked:

Other than this, I can really recommend any as Ive always been a fan of American mafia movies, but good idea for a thread.

Don't know how much it'd count as a gangster movie, but "monday" is fucking awesome. japanese director, i'm 90% sure i remember his name but i don't want to be wrong, and i don't want to look it up.

also, 弾丸ランナー dangan runner. Movie that 'run lola run' took a LOT of cues from. Pretty much the whole movie is a foot chase. Involves a gang mix up thing so i'm gonna include it anyways.

^yes, you do but try watch the whole trilogy pretty close together so it flows better and makes more sense!

Gangster number 1 is also a good recommendation - +rep cos it didn't even enter my mind!

'Company' from India and 'Nowhere to hide' (Injeong sajeong bol geot eobtda) from South Korea.

Both are excellent starting points for getting off the beaten track, I highly reccommend them both.
