and i really think people should stop ragging on Canada as a terrible place to live. It's clean, people are friendly, and if ur in a major city (Van, toronto, MTL), it's still nicer than most Midwest US states/cities IMO

Canada has a good mix of urban rural, and I like being able to live in the city, but still have some peace and quiet every now and then..

what Axtsang said about insurance is bang on, those fuckers are crooks.

The taxes in general in this country ARE too high, but that doesn't change the fact that we have clean streets, good health care for FREE, fresh water etc etc..

It is hard to strike it "rich here", but i think the main problem people had with your post axtsang is because you came off sounding a little spoiled and whiney.. even though i doubt that is completly the case from meeting you

Hah thanks HomiG.

how the hell can you hate canadian geography? we live in a fucking amazing country.

this is taken in K/W, an area populated by about half a million people, yet you can't see a single house or building anywhere. its all just green. sometimes we can forget how awesome we have it. you want to leave because its hard to find clothes?

(yes i realize technically he is standing on the remains of a farmhouse, but i think you understand my point here)

i really miss that barn.

i'm glad rich people have to pay 40% taxes. if you don't want to pay for insurance, don't drive a car. people aren't being given enough disincentives to stop driving. north americans are so fucking self-absorbed. life here is so sweet -- you probably have no idea what commodities like water, healthcare, and gas are actually worth. i don't think we are charged for their true value.

canada rules. you guys should all move to the states if you hate it here.

heh seems to me like its a socialism vs capitalism argument really.

im selfish and all for capitalism. i like my nice cars. when people ask me what about the poor, i usually am quite quick to retort with the suck it up/there are opportunities out there but i really cant say that as ive been pretty fortunate all my life.

and even making 150 k a year, you may one day rely on ohip...do you realize how fucking expensive medical care is in the U.S? spend a month in a hospital and wait for the bill to come, see if that 150 covers all your expenses.

you know you can buy insurance in the states too.. that covers major expenses..

Canada sucks.

Seriously, once you're higher than the upper middle class status, taxes are fucking tugging onto your balls 24/7. Who needs OHIP when one makes $150k+ a year? It's only slowing the rich down to help those who aren't earning as much due to the fact that they didn't finish their education properly / just plain lazy (knowing full well there might be other selected cases where a tragedy ties in).

And what the fuck is up with insurance rates in Ontario? $7000 to be a fucking primary driver of a 335i? Fuck this shit.

It isn't all just because of the accessibility of clothing.

hahahahah

wow, you're an idiot.

You're fucking idiot, aren't you? Canada spends millions of dollars to promote immigration and create the positive image. 250000 or something immigrate each year, because there's a program set up for immigration. Canada is pretty much the easiest country to immigrate to and then get a citizenship. BUT for the government it's just a business, that's why all the smart people who come here can't find a proper job—their education is worth shit in Canada.

Brilliant doctor? Sure, come to Canada, but only when you come here we'll tell you that you can't work here. Brilliant engineer? Sorry, we couldn't bother telling you before you came here, but there's no jobs for immigrants. Immigrants have to either suck it up and work in low-paying jobs or start a business.

Let me explain further: the system is set-up so that you get ranked based on your age, maritial status, education, professional experience, language knowledge, etc. So if you're around 35, married, finished bachelor's or masters and know English well, you'll probably be accepted. BUT at the same time your degree is worthless in Canada, unless you come from English speaking country which nobody tells you... so basically they pick the smartest people to do their floor cleaning and taxi driving.

And you know what? It's the people who complain that change the country for the better, not those who say that everything is perfect here.

moving away doesn't really help.... im not saying this country is perfect. far from it in fact. and you are right, change comes from complaints. but when its a 19 year old crying about not having enough money, or having to spend too much on insuring his bmw... its a little different than fighting for equal immigration status rights.

ps. - 100% behind you with the equal status fight by the way.

pps. i also think SOS wasn't stating a serious position there. i think what he was trying to say is quite the opposite. i took it was why did your rich as fuck parents move here and then complain about paying high taxes.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. I didn't think of it that way, I simply applied it to my case and my parents... and we were never really rich, just average working middle class. And, btw, I'm 19 and I'm upper class... and the taxes hurt me, but I just have to suck it up. I also didn't pick up 335i as my first car... that's just dumb.

Anyway, this is a serious discussion and I don't think there's a place for it on SuFu. Especially since I don't feel like discussing my family's globe-wide migration and struggle, lol. ;)

22 in the shade, so I would say 26 - 30 in the sun... finally stopped raining, I couldn't be happier.

And so I'm not completely derailing: I'm having hardest time finding non-overpriced clothing in Vancouver... and I'm too lazy to buy from US. It's not really the money, it's the principle. Richard Kidd has like 200% + mark-up on some stuff...
