New suit recs?

So I have around $500 to spend on a suit for my prom. I'm really crunched for time so anything extravagent is probably out of the picture. A Barneys just opened up in downtown Seattle so I was thinking maybe a DH suit but I really have no clue how much they run for. Any ideas?

this may be a little off topic, but what is considered proper prom wear?

I've always thought it was a black tie event, meaning a real tux, bow tie, satin peaked lapels, and the whole shibang

However, looking at prom photos, I see everyone in suits?

Additionally, look into high end second hand shops in your area. I picked up a Costume National suit that was F/W 04/05 for under 200$ recently, perfect condition. Another hundred dollars at my tailor and I had a perfectly fitted runway suit for a fifth of the original price.

Since you don't know the price of a DH suit I imagine you're probably not so into fashion that you care about having THIS VERY YEARS EXACT STYLE, so that may be an option for you. If you find something it will end up being a hell of a lot nicer than a Zara suit.

Tiger of Sweden makes a very nice slim cut, they have some one button options as well. They start around 6-700, so if you grab one on sale, the alterations might not have to be so drastic (unless you're really lucky).

If you're not planning on using this suit often/again, but want to look "in", go for Zara etc.

But if you're planning on keeping this for a while, try to squeeze out a couple hundred more and get a classic suit in a classic cut that will last.

The less alteration, the better.

And as far as I know, prom has always been a semi-formal event, but the rules aren't ever really followed, and most people where what they like within a window. ie. business casual, to tux.
