adidas by suface to air?

Because this shoe came out about a year ago. The adicolor line really didn't take off and now they are moving the pairs they couldn't sell on UO. I bought a pair of these for like 30 dollars on ebay a while back. The quality is very nice.

Yeah.

i was excited for this shoe to come out until i actually held one in my hands and felt the deep sort of disappointment, the kind a father feels when he finds out via MySpace that his daughter is a cocksucking whore.

I dunno what adidas problem is. They have so many "limited edition" shoes, collab shoes, and yet there is just zero cache on them, no hype, nobody wants them. Do they just make too many? Are they not wired into the hype machine like Nike is? I dunno...

I love adidas, but rather than get the latest collab or LE, I just buy old classics in rare colors like Marathon TRs, Lavers, etc. which are dirt cheap at the time and end up being worth more than those collabs.

sorry for rambling

Eh - i don't mind so much because that lets me pick up some of the nicer ones for cheap - a good example being the Peter Saville Adicolors. I bought a pair sometime last year but hadn't worn it as yet (was waiting for nicer weather) and now, I just picked up another pair on ebay for cheap to wear as a beater.

Surface to Air makes a lot of shitty stuff. Have they made anything good recently?

yes. a couple of good tees, some nice dress shoes, some okay jackets, economical jewelry, a good remix, greay novelty pins...

these are nifty, price is a little steep, but ive never seen em on anyones feet....maybe if they still have my size by the end of the month. Why does everyone hate urban outfitters again?

They is $99 on zappos, if you like uglyass shoes.

I agree with the general hate. I like S2A's graphic design, jewelry, and tees, but these are hideous, and even worse in person. They feel so cheap and synthetic. There are worse Adicolors (the Fafi ones? The Jim Henson ones?), but these still suck.

The question of Adidas' negative cache is a good one. I have a friend who's a senior designer at Nike, and he told me that compared to Nike's rigorous, extensive market research and quality control, Adidas will just put into production any hare-brained ideas its designers come up with. Like someone fresh out of Art Center will say, "Let's do a limited collab with The Game and Hawaiian Punch!" and the execs who hold the keys just say "Go for it!" They definitely dilute their quality offerings with a bunch of tawdry shite.

Their shoes are ok. Jewelry ain't my thing so I'm not gonna comment. Their T's have been whack lately. What do they charge, $60 for half-assed t-shirts? Ya'll suckers.

i didn't think that every single tee from the paris collection was wack. $60 is pretty much industry standard. i remember when my friend's grandfather used to complain about coca-colas not costing 10cents anymore. he then called me a sucker.

maybe you could give me a couple of good examples of unwack tees that are more economically viable for one like yourself.

t-shirts cost nothing. anything over $50 is ridiculous. at that price, you can hire someone to screenprint the design onto anything you'd like, or screenprint it yourself. depending on your music tastes, a lot of small bands/labels produce good shirts for prices between $5-$20. seems like Beams T, and Graniph aren't ridiculously expensive these days. if you're comfortable wearing shirts the masses already have, whether you'd like to admit it or not, h&m produces a decent t-shirt once in a while. HARE may be an option.

pinpointing exact t-shirt labels is more difficult because they come and go with the wind. they often do not have websites, and produce very small quantities. like i said in another thread, epigone, memphis, and it's our thing are viable options. t-shirt labels that used to produce interesting items but now suck include: fyasko, lindt, stardumb, and crystal city. there are others, but i do not know of any good products this season.

beams tees range from 4500-7000 yen. i was just at hare in shibuya and a bunch of phot print tees of theirs were fucking 5800 yen. i dislike graniph and hare for certain connotations and certainly don't think they're cool/hip or nice for that matter (hare is okay, but the quality sucks sucks sucks). you have to take into consideration all of the expenses that designers/producers and venders inccur. it's not as simple as "oh a tee shirt with a one colored cel print is around $5-6 to produce." there are minimums, governement taxes, labor commisions, the time involved etc. we often are paying for a certain image or aesthetic, and there is certainly nothing unethical or wrong with that.

do you know how much it cost to make pair of shoes? depending on the model, liberally around 20-30% of the retail. yet it seems acceptable for consumers to buy them for around $80-$100. what is your input about this?? the mark up and the rising costs of inflation don't always justify the price, but they are necessary so that the world's economy can function somewhat properly. if i were living in a 3rd world country i guess i could somewhat sympathize with your plight, but alas i do not.

an image can be taken from pleasure principle's lookbook and reproduced for well under $50. the same goes for kenzo minami.

a two color print can easily reach as low as $2. taxes are negligible, customs restrictions aren't much of an obstacle. the only thing of any value is the design of the image itself. can i think of any instances where a mass produced image is worth over $50 on a t-shirt? no. and if there is one, i'd counterfeit it.

i disagree with your economics argument.

the only reason t-shirts are priced so high is greed.

for your high markup of shoes argument, are we talking about tennis shoes or leather dress shoes?

again, I would not pay very much for tennis shoes.

i would be willing to spend money on leather dress shoes. with dress shoes you are paying for the quality, and often times the reputation of the brand.

of the brand.

surface2air, kenzo minami, and other higher priced tees often produce their own tshirt bodies. "taxes are negligible" and "and if there is one, i'd counterfeit it." it is these senitments alone that often force designers/labels to raise their prices so they can make up for their lost profits stolen by the greedy or cheap. it may sound crazy too you, but look at the kinds of spaces and interior design that many higher priced shops occupy. the rent and it's ambiance is a factor as well (it's not easy having lower pricepoints in a prime shopping district as opposed to selling tees on the internet or out of one's tour van).

"the only thing of any value is the design of the image itself." again, what about the body? and with this statement we could dwelve into an argument about art.

i don't know, i would rather just buy the real thing. what is your logic behind fake goods i.e. knock off watchs/luxury bags?

not that i like nike too much, but aren't they reputable? i don't enjoy their aesthetic, but i admit that their shoes are comfortable. i don't see why alot of their models wouldn't be considered quality products.

...(tee conversation again) and customs restrictions can be tough depending on how much product your moving and from what location/destination etc.

people are willing to pay $60 for a tee by them so they sell them for that much. if you are unwilling to pay that much, then simply dont buy them or wait for them to go on sale. ive picked up a number of s2a shirts for far below retail, so i dont see what the big deal is. they're just like any other clothing company; marking up product excessively is hardly anything new to the fashion industry.

Back on topic, I forgot to mention this before, but I like a lot of the BBlessing stuff that S2A is doing. The tees are the same (apparently unreasaonble) price point, but they feel nicer, and I like a lot of the graphics and colors. Oddly, I haven't seen BBlessing mentioned on SuFu at all. Is SuFu collectively sleeping?

Has anyone been to the store? It's said to be pretty nice, even though there seems to be some kind of weird nod to Breakbeat Science (the previous tenant). Supposedly there's a semi-secret back room that only sells d'n'b 12"s. What the fuck? S2Ax BBlessing x Breakbeat Science < Adidas x The Game x Hawaiian Punch.

i feel the same way. dunno why, but adi's "limited" stuff just doesn't appeal to me at all... i'd much rather have a pair of plain white/black or black/white shell toes than 99% of the "limited" stuff they put out.
