I called Regino in january and the wait time was about 3 months at that point. that was too long for me but I'd love to get something done by him at some point.

I had a b&w piece done by Yoni Zilber at Adorned in brooklyn and was really happy.

Stefano alcentra is by far is best artist in NY. Unless you into hipster tattoos.

Kings ave is moving to Soho. grez is your best bet for flash art.

Here Is some non traditional stuff Damon Conklin (out of seattle) is working on my chest. 2.5 hours of work so far. Been healing for about 35 hours. Hasn't scabed or anything yet. I have 3 more sessions booked. I just told him to make something badass and pretty involving a wolf that chewed it's own paw off to escape a trap.

one of the fantastic things about living in the biggest polynesian city in the world is the history of tattoo [the word tattoo itself is borrowed from tahitian]

today i got to watch su'a tuifa'asisina considered to be the best practitioner of traditional samoan tattoo on a few different pe'a.

sua.jpg

one of his minders invited me closer in order to take photos. from what i spied the ink was rotring [not specialist tattoo ink]

su'a works out of south auckland, most of the tattoos i have seen that are done in samoa are done with tattoo guns. the population of samoan's is bigger here than it is in samoa so south auckland has become a mecca for traditional work.

tribal.jpg

his minder told me that su'a does work on palangi [non samoan], and will do work other than the pe'a but still traditional in style.
