I would like to know what is the best way to do it. Please do not post and tell me to "get your right size". That is not an option. I have a pair if APC rescues size 33 who have stretched to 38.5". I have another pair of jeans that are a 36 and trimming a inch or two will make them fit well. I dont have faith in my tailor and if anything would like to direct him to a better technique. thanks

Tailors can work on jeans, usually, within a range of about 1-2".

If you don't have faith in your tailor, I wouldn't give him your jeans. They're not trousers; they're a little harder to alter.

On the APCs, I suspect you've already boiling-hot-soaked for an extended period of time?

why is getting your right size not an option?

and jeezus, they stretched 5.5 inches? that means they can shrink back at least 3 inches. have you washed them yet?

and for yet another bust on your post, if they really won't shrink back, altering material that has stretched that much is going to look completely wrong.

I agree, altering a stretched piece of denim is risky business...they will shrink up after the wash and look like garbage...all bunchy and puckery
