Cinch back w/ belt loops - what's the point?

I'm thinking of picking up a pair of Sammy S0130XJ and noticed that they were cinch backs but also had belt loops. My LVC 1906 Bunkhouse 501s have a cinch back but no belt loop. That makes sense to me since you won't need a belt - just adjust the back. Can you even wear a belt with cinch back jeans?

Sorry for the newbie question. I did a search on cinch backs and didn't find an answer.

Mahalo!

For all of the LVC 201s I've encountered, the cinch is all but useless for tightening the jeans, as it has no teeth to grip the cinch.

As far as my other cinchbacks go, you could just use the cinch to tighten them, although to be honest a belt is a better solution. Mostly, I buy cinchbacks because I like them, not so much because they're a better solution to keeping my trousers up.

Levis added belt loops in 1922. Suspender buttons were taken off and rivets are hidden in 37. 36 the red big E tag was added. The cinch back, crotch rivet and watch pocet rivets come off during the war and the arcuate was painted on to save on materials.

Those 20s 201s 555 LVCs are outstanding.

Did Levi's ever have jeans that had a cinch back and belt loops? Or did the cinch back go away when the belt loops were addd in 1922?

I like cinch backs too. They add a little "flavor" to jeans that harks back to the early years of jeans.

I don't know if I can bring myself to pick up the S0130XJs with the belt loops though. Can I remove the loops w/o destroying the look of the jeans? Will they leave marks?

The part I've made bold answers your question.

If the cinch is only stitched, not fastened with rivets and the jeans are raw you could probably get them off without much noticable damage done to the jeans. It would be a pity though!

You seem very knowledgable about the history of this jeans. Do you know if Levis used natural indigo on the 201 xx? I am amazed at the color of my pair as it doesn't seem to have the same fade as my 501xx's. Color is still very deep and beautiful. Please confirm this. Thanks!

Its definately different denim from the red line stuff. The green/blue line stuff they used is just incredible and fades so cool. I don't know if its natural. Maybe Paul T could answer that.

LVCs buckles SUCK. The only decent one is the one they use on their 33 & 37 501s but you havbe to clip the cross bar to make points. I have replaced my buckles on my 20s 201s as well as my 1886s with original buckles from early in the last century.

The belt loops and cinches stayed untill the 1940s war years. LVCs 1920s 201s, 1933 501s, 1937 201s, 1937 501s all have both.
