Another nice new offering from diesel

Missing what security stripe exactly? The microstitching is there, and without a very close look with good eyes or a magnifying glass you can't tell if the stitching is genuine or not.

Real ones produced after about 1999 look like this:

Whereas I have never seen a fake with a CORRECT security stripe as above with the small letters in it. Before I learned how to tell the fakes I purchased quite a few of them and they generally look like what he posted, but here's some more examples. All the pix I put up in this post, BTW, were taken by me of jeans that are or at one time were in my possession:

Trust me that pair that the greek dude posted is fake. :)

Funny, Diesel were doing raw selvedge (731), one wash (701) and dark dry denim (779) a decade ago. Back when I was at Diesel and one of the denim trainers for the UK, the one wash flew off the shelves, and the fits were sensible.

Tweedles is right, they also had a selvedge model long before most of you even knew what that was. The first ones were the Old Glory Keetars - cut like a 501, one wash, really nice 31" selvedge denim:

These were replaced by an unwashed selvedge Kratt along with a one wash selvedge and a more faded selvedge.

They were also doing interesting overdyes; a one wash overdyed with a yellow sulfer dye, there was a green overdye on a gorgeous ring spun denim, but the rot started to set in with their dirty raw denim in late 1998 which had an orange overdye.

Don't write the company off completely because of their current direction. They deserve a true denimheads respect as much as someone like Wrangler IMO, perhaps not for what they're doing now, but for where they've been.

i second that "don't write that company off"...plenty of so-called premium denim brands out there aren't worth any coin at all, but i think diesel stands out in some sense from the general shrubbery.

Dr Jonboy - did diesel start out making levi's reproductions as well? the stitching on those Keetars bear a similar resemblance to the levi's arcuate as all those japanese repros.

blm - no worries :)

No, they weren't repros per se. Renzo Rosso started off making bell bottoms, then hooked up with Adriano Goldschmeidt and Diesel was born.

The backpocket 'eagle' did fall foul of Levis though, who claimed it was too similar to their arcuate. It looked like the current one, but instead of two parallel lines, they were swoopy. After Diesel lost the lawsuit, they brought out a style called Wanker, which was basically the Fanker bootcut in fabric, not denim, and with an insane amount of stitching on the back pocket.

The stitching on the back of the Old Glorys is actually different to all the other styles though, and was specific to the early selvedge jeans.

Agreed. Also, no matter what your feelings are about their clothes, you have to admit that they do fucking awesome advertising campaigns.

Those jeans are fake. The tag is missing the security stripe. Ouch

You didnt see the stripe goofass ? It only is on one single side of the tag and somehow does not go thru the backside ..

Im pretty sure the only way you can read the micro words is when you remove that silver thread thing and the writing is under that

I don't why a major retailer would ever sell fakes - this wasn't some corner store boutique . and like I said they had redline diesels so why would they have fake jeans + real jeans

Wanker - nice one there...

how long ago did RR and AG come together? it is a pity they broke away from the raw/one-wash and selvedge concept.

Go back and look at the photos that I posted. You can tell with the naked eye when the image is close enough, and the one that he posted was close enough. <shrug>

I'm thinking 1984-1988, but I might be wrong. I know AG was out of the picture before the end of the 1980s.
