Timesonline.uk article on denim

Just like kindergarten, everybody gets an award. I'm surprised Evisu wasn't mentioned, but again, this article just seems like the other thousands, nothing worth remembering. Now, if they can get the denimheads in this forum to write a collective article, I'd be impressed.

Jesus, what a load of crap. They forgot more than APC. I suppose you have to bear in mind that it's an article in the national press not a specialist journal or site, but it's so patronising. And is it really the case that PRPS use veggie dyes? I can't believe that's right for £200 or so.

Serge can I see somewhere on the internet pics of those Diesels limited edition?

The PRPS unwashed selvage are great in fact. Few brands use such quality: organic cotton, vegetable dyes, sun drying, etc... as for being "rolls royce of denim" I don't know

Rolls Royce of denim = 45rpm - no question. See them in person if you don't believe me. icon_smile_big.gif

PRPS have extremely unflattering cuts, IMO. I tried on some 5EPs this weekend and they are amazing - I would rate them higher than PRPS. In fact, calling PRPS the Rolls Royce of denim is pretty ignorant, considering that its features are pretty much standard operating procedure in Japan for premium denim mills, aside from the organic cotton (but hell, Howies sells that for less than half the price)

None of the PRPS jeans I've seen (dark or faded) have had the greenish hue that you typically get with organic indigo, so I doubt this is accurate across the line. On the other hand, the organic dye 45rpm use in their Aihikos doesn't provide this hue until the jeans have been through several washes, so it may be possible that some of the darker PRPS have it. I'd imagine it would be a big selling point though (the organic dye is the main justification 45rpm use for the insane price of the Aihikos), and the first time I've seen it mentioned was in that Times article.

My understanding is that natural dying is much more than a marketing device, and is genuinely an expensive process compared to chemical dying. The only PRPS jean I've seen that looks half way decent is the one wash cumpled effect ones. Their distressed ones are a bit too diesel. Pretty dodgy in fact.

Rolls Royce of jeans would be 45rpm bespoke, I'd agree. Or my spotted horse/Yohjis (hehe)

45rpm don't do any unwashed or raw denim that I am aware of. All their denim is made with double ring spun Zimbabwean cotton on vintage shuttle looms, but only the Aihikos (45rpm's 'bespoke' line) are dyed using organic Japanese indigo. The customization on these jeans is that the washes and distressing are performed based on the way a single wash pair hangs / creases on the person they’re being customized for, so technically they're not bespoke (or even made to measure) at all. Single wash Aihikos are about $700, ‘five year’ wash Aihikos are $1,000+ They make for the nicest looking non-vintage jeans I think I’ve ever seen, but there’s no way most people (myself included) could justify that price tag.

geowu,

the bespoke ones you can have your own whiskers and chevrons placements and intensity. the pp-sponge technique at the thigh will also hit according to the shape of your thigh. also you can choose the hardware and trims... the fit is pretty much set.

so it's partial artificial and partical authentic... this is another conversation: repro or vintage?;P

Nice, I'd love to see how the raw denim turned out. I picked up a pair of 'distressed' Sorahikos (there was no raw option at the time and they didn't have one wash in my size) last year at the SoHo store. While they're probably the most nicely made jeans I've owned (the distressing / wear is incredibly well done in the same anally retentive Otaku perfectionist way that the denim is woven and the jeans are assembled) it's not quite the same as getting the wear in yourself.

Don't think I've ever checked the center back beltloop. Is there a prize hidden there? :)
