I don't know about "best" but here's what's in my CD changer right now:

Portishead "Dummy"

Raekwon "...Cuban Linx"

Steely Dan "Aja"

Beck "Sea Change"

Joe Frank "Blues Singer" (not an album, random stories over music/beats)

this thread isnt about best, it's about current listening.

I was really disappointed when I heard that m83 album. dead cities red seas and lost ghosts was so much better.

Honestly, I haven't heard that one. I saw a video for Teen Angst on mtv2 at some ridiculously late hour a few months ago and i was hooked. Ill have to check out their other album

when i saw you posted, whiskey, i KNEW you were gonna say newsome

nice to see van dyke parks still active; song cycle is one of those albums that i can just summon in my mind when i'm on long walks; my permanent mental jukebox

the pairing of newsome and van dyke parks is perfect

and then throw some albini in there and whoa!

I gotta backup Lance P's pick of Hope Conspiracy Death Knows Where You Live and the amazing new Converge album.

Over here I am loving

Chris Herbert Mezzotint [on kranky]

Drudkh Blood in our Wells

Xasthur Subliminal Genocide [Hydra Head]

Grails Black Tar Prophecies Vols. 1, 2 and 3 [important]

But what I've listened to over and over and over again is

Victims Divide and Conquer [Havoc Records]
