are all japanese denim "true-to-size/fit"? if all of them aren't, which ones are true to their tag sizes on the waist? i've seen lots of jeans that has a difference waist sizes in their tags compare to their actual size...

base on my experience as a noob, all of the jeans i have bought, mostly levi's, has a different measurement in tags compare on measuring them by "tape" or by trying them on. my actual waist measurement is 36-37 but almost all of my jeans are tagged 33 or 34. is this coincidence? thanks!

Well, alot depends on where you wear the jeans too, and how "high waisted" the jeans are. As, most repros are quite high waisted, but people choose to wear them lower.

For reference, sugarcane seems to be true to size, while Eternal is 2 sizes smaller than they say (34 is a 32).

However, I wonder what is going on when you say your true waist is 36 but you wear 33. This seems quite off to me.

I wear my jeans an inch below my belly button

when i measure my waist by a tape measure, it reads 36, 37 being a bit relaxed. but i wear size 33 jeans

thanks for the help man.

Are you measuring your waist or your hips? This should have been my question.

What I do when ordering on line is measure my jeans laid flat, and then look at the sizing charts. I would be curious what the actual measurements of your jeans are if your waist is actually 36, 7.

I just measured my jeans and they're 18.2, 18.5, 18.6 when laid flat. the first one fits me just right. all of them are quite stretched already

From my reading and personal experience there does not seem to be any consistency in sizing from one manufacturer to another (or even different with different styles from the same manufacturer). With the non-sanforized "shrink to fit" denim, levis typically states the unwashed size on the tag and many of the japanese manufacturers state the size the think the jeans will become after shrinking. Also a lot of the manufacturers seem to size their jeans so they fit a little loose on the hips (assuming that the hips are 1-2 inches larger than the waist) the tagged size may be 1 or more inches smaller than the actual measurement. And that is without consideration of how much stretching might occur.
