Heltah Skeltah - Nocturnal

OGC (Originoo Gunn Clappaz)- Da Storm

Smif'N Wessun - Dah Shinin'

The first Black Moon is also very good. those 3 albums are def in my top 10 ever. the quality of the stuff they put out after that is really variable, going from total crap to really good

binary star were the illest group around
binary star

I never thought there'd be people on SuFu who knew Binary Star. Much props. Damn they're dope.

the cold vein is ridiculous. el-p owns me.

One of the greatest LP's of all time. So far ahead of its time. I don't think people get this album. The Live recording they released last year was fuckin killer as well. Lookin' forward to "I'll sleep when I'm dead."

I'm sorry but I just went through the ENTIRE thread and well... 11 pages and all I'm seeing is above average NEW hip hop listed...

I think it's safe to say that 06 was one of the WEAKEST years for hip hop ever...

So let's bring it BACK to the early-mid-90's

hence the topic, Good New Hiphop ;)

I think it's safe to say that 06 was one of the WEAKEST years for hip hop ever...

theres a lot of crappy music being put out, but I couldn't say that last year was that weak. Game Theory, Lupe Fiasco, AZ's The Format, Clipse, The Game, Kingdom Come, Hip-hop is dead, More Fish, Fishscale, Dilla, jurassic 5..

anyway back on topic, heres a little something again:

how is papoose garbage? dude has a sick flow and voice, definately a dope mc but I'm kind of worried about his upcoming album since he has toolbags like jim jones feating on tracks

by the way if anyone needs 4th quarter asassin, let me know

new Brother Ali album is coming in April I think, a few tracks here: http://www.myspace.com/brotherali

88.jpg

When is your new album named “The Undisputed Truth” coming out?

In august. When I distributed my other albums I didn´t had anybody who helped us. With this one we do have some distribution. It´s still not big, but we do have some distribution. Working with this company we are trying to plan it. The people who I have working on my promotion, marketing and radio I want to give them enough time to really try to do their job. I´ve never had good radio push. I really in my heart believe that there are people who might like my music who never heard it and they don´t know how to hear it. I might sell less with the new one, but you never know. Anything can happen.

Tell us more about the upcoming album.

Well, the album is pretty much done. It´s a very personal album. I am still doing me. When I talk about a subject or topic, I talk about the way I feel about it and how effects me personal. I talk about some things that people might think that are political on this new album.

Are the lyrics in some topics meant to be political?

I don´t think they are political. It wasn´t meant to turn that way. But in America, the shit is in your face more than ever right now. Most of americans don´t read very much history, they don´t know geography, they don´t know passports, they don´t travel outside the United States, they don´t know the real history of slavery. We don´t know how terrible this is. There were a few people that were evil, that really made slavery happen, there were a few people against it. We´re supposed to be patriotical. We went to one of the main concentration camps in Munich the other day before our show and it´s almost like there is a healing process here in Germany with that whole issue, because the people were honest about what happened. The difference with Germany that I´ve seen is that in Germany the people acknowledge it and they say it for what it is, they are able to separate it from it, like “That´s not Germany, that´s Hitler and his friends who did that-it wasn´t all of us”. In America they don´t talk about slavery at all. If you talk about slavery now in a political talk, people are just like “Oh, that was so long ago.” And it wasn´t! It was two generations ago. The thing is, that on a different level the slavery is still a going on in the United States. I really think that americans as a whole are very ignorant people.

i liked the ghostface mixtape more than more fish.

best stuff i heard this year was probly spank rock. buts thats not for everyone. nas just cant make an album. hip hop is dead has 5 amazing tracks and the rest are unlistenable. he needs to step up his quality control. id say the same for kingdom come. the tracks i liked most on that one are so far off from waht jay normally does. the rest of the album sounds like someone doing a bad jay z impression.

listen to giant panda.

I agree on Nas, his definately lacking on consistency in terms of complete albums and dude is always suspect with beat selection. some great beats on HHID but a few really bad ones.

what goes for jay, I was really feeling the whole album, I think one of his major strengths is the ability to make so many different kind of tracks and still sound good, even his radio/single tracks are good which I think KC proved. but I know a lot of people weren't feeling KC, so I'll have to agree to disagree.

The same tracks remixed? Did you even listen to the album? Fell off? Hardly...maybe you dont like the album but Nas 'keeps falling off harder and harder?' Never that.

As far as I know Thiefs Theme was only used on Streets Disciple and HHID. And, it wasnt even used in the same way. Maybe Im forgetting...I'll go back and listen but Im quite positive thats the case.

Do I think he's declined lyrically since Illmatic? Hell no. Do I think he's changed and isnt writing songs from the mind of a desperate 20 year old kid? Yes. Definitely. I dont ever expect him to put out another Illmatic but he's come close atleast a few times. Im not going to judge him from a single freestyle on Rap City either.

No the same track was used on other albums multiple times. Do you own all the Nas albums? I do except for the last one he dropped because I gave up hope. Look I'm not hating on him. I used to say shit like Nas is better than Biggie. I'm that kind of Nas fan. Thats a big ass statement. I mean he uses the same rhymes in different songs sometimes, he uses the same words, sometimes the shit doesn't even flow right and I'm not talking about the freestyles. He can't freestyle. I won't even go there though because he's not known for that. In my opinion he isn't meeting his own potential and it's a let down. I would say he started falling off real hard after stillmatic but your right the other cds don't even touch illmatic. The switching up the 20 year old mentality thing, yeah thats cool but it still gotta' go together. I can dig the whole black power get your education spirituality vibe on thing but emcees have been doing that way way nicer for a min. When I hear his shit anymore it's almost like he's not even being real to his fans. It's like he's trying to hold on and squeeze the last little bit of what he doesn't have anymore out of himself. It sounds like I'm listening to eminem... nah it's not that bad. I just think he fell off and I don't see him gettting back up. Just my personal opinion.

Haha calling him eminem is a low fucking blow. But thats cool I respect your opinion, just disagreeing is all. I have all of his albums except for the illmatic to stillmatic remixes. Ive never even heard of that. I gotta check it out.

yea rjd2...a friend of mine said he's coming here pretty soon, i might have to check it out if i can get off work that night..i went to see him here in that def jux tour many years ago with el-p, and cage and shit...

still need to get that ghostface-more fish...heard nothing but praise.

ive been listening to lots of mac dre recently...

rj is bananas when hes with an MC. hes medicore by himself. the soul position tour was fuckign awesome. thats where that pic is from. syncronized dances with live MPCing on his chest. hilarious. blueprint is hysterical too. i doubt i could watch a hwole rj set now cause theres no way he could live up to that standard.

...and im gonna go way out here and blow all the true schoolers midns with this. but illmatic is not nas' best lp. as far as im concerned, the lost tapes kills anything hes ever done. and if he made a album that was get down 12 times in a row, id take that over illmatic too. i know thats blasphemy but i dont get nostalgic for nas. i liek when he surprises me. illmatic is too safe 14 years later. i like hearing him and going " i never thought id be blwon away by him again"

WOW!

thats the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard in all of my Nas discussions I've had in my entire life. i've heard some crazy ass shit but you just went into a different dimension of outrageousness. my jaw dislocated and fell to the floor after i read this. the lost tapes is in like the bottom two of the worst nas albums ever produced. i seriously can't even talk hiphop on this forum anymore.

i expected that kind of backlash. i dont see how you can rate it that low. i understand liking illmatic more because its just so easy to like the album EVERYONE thinks is the greatest. but it doesnt move me as much as doo rags, black zombies, no idea's original, or get down. i liked a few albums more than illmatic the year it came out. lost tapes was the highlight of its year for me. of course if your the illmatic hailing type, you probly thin nothing good came out after 96. i feel ya, i just dont see it that way.

haha thats a pretty bold statement too. in my list lost tapes is way over nastradamus, I am, streets desciple and gods son at least. probably stillmatic too.

but I dont wanna get any further into this since the thread is about new hiphop.

See you guys got me sidetracked. I didn't even realize that this forum was about new hip hop. I just remember skimming through and catching the nas conversation and one thing led to the next, my bad. I actually do like some of the new hip hop just not the albums nas has been doing. I guess I am sorta old school or whatever but I'm not like old school where I'm constantly bring up the roots of hiphop etc like nas did on the last album... which by the way is, "super played out". My favorite era in hiphop is definitely east coast gangster shit from the 90's but i still listen to other stuff. I'm not all on the backpack emcee steelo either but I got sucked into alot of def jux shit especially el-p and aesop. I'm feeling the clipse still and ghostface but It's real hard for me to find stuff that I like lyrically nowadays so mostly I'm on the look for beats regaurdless of whats being said. If you guys get down with the turntables check ricci ruckers intro to skratch muzik out though. I think it's like a couple years back but it's sort of a hidden gem( not that I expect too many people to agree with me based on the nas debate, which I disagree even further about but I give up).

Just Listen to all 5 Cormega CD's and call me in the morning. After that...Nas 'll seem like MegaLite....

haahah that sounds awesome, print was easily one of my favourite live mcs and both soul position records were pretty brilliant, i am very hesistant about rj solo live tho
