Left-hand /Right-hand twill; a weight comparison.

Recieving a couple of swatches from an asian non-japanese mill, i couldn't help but notice that

a 14.5 oz RHT and a 12.5 oz LHT seem very similar in thickness. Both are 3/1 weaves.

It seems really ironic since the LHT is said to be a softer type of denim.

If I remember correctly, the reason LHT is softer is because the twist makes the fibers "open up" more, which would also cause it to be thicker volume wise because there would be more air space in the thread than with the tighter wound RHT. Or at least, I think thats how it works, but that made a lot more sense in my head before I tried to type it out heh

What you say about air would certainly make sense with the washed LHT being very soft.

It looks like it stretches a bit more after washing as well, as if the denim itself is washed softer as with any other denim, but it still keeps the "air" in between the fibers.
