Why??

I can understand not finding it fun or something, but I really don't understand the bitter hatred towards roller bladers. It is pathetic.

Can anyone give me an honest reason besides it is fruity, they look gay, everyone who does it is fags, it's fruity, it's easy, it's fruity...

That is the worst fucking reason. I skateboarded for about six years and then began rollerblading. I found both equally fun and even ended up doing both for a while. Having fun doing two things? Blasphemous!

Going to a skatepark to enjoy myself became a joke. It is ridiculous to have to put up with the heckling of skateboarders, skateboarders refusing to not sit on a ledge so the fag rollerblader can skate it, skateboarders stealing your bags, etc. It is all really, really pointless and I don't see why people don't just stop.

i used to blade too. that was a joke. i really couldnt give a fuck. i was commenting on how some friends of mine, when i asked them to tell me why they hated bladers so much, responded with my first post on the subject. I think blading is equally fun, and the locals at my park dont really care, only a few assholes. i skate in Northern Va, You?

haha... sorry, but your post just reminded me of highschool. Kids can be so cruel.

but, seriously blading may be fun and all that, but you are taking on a certain identity when you start with that shit.

Uh.. and what identity is that? The only identity is one that skateboarders chose to pointlessly associate with rollerblading. Is the identity wearing spandex and prancing around in skates? If so, have you seen a lot of early skateboarding stuff?

I haven't touched skates in about four or five years, but when I did skate it was mainly around Washington.

im not saying that I agree with it, but back in the day I used to think bladers were a bunch of fags or/and dorks. Why is it that bladers seem to be so clueless to this shit? ...why do people thinks this? I dont know. maybe cause the way it looks or maybe it has to do with the people that were associated with it back in my highschool.

before everyone starts to get all defensive, I just want to say that I dont give a shit anymore.

Do whatever you want man. If you enjoy rollerblading then good for you. I didn't pick it up just because it didn't appeal to me as a sport or pass time. If you only do something for the sake of being cool or avoiding something because everyone thinks it's uncool then you become powerless. And you don't want to go thru life being like that!

If you have ever tried to skate in a park or at the same spot as rollerbladers you would understand.

Rollerbladers are a nuisance. A shitty rollerblader can skate the same shit that only a pretty good skater can, and they are faster and stay on their feet longer, meaning they make way more passes than one can on a skateboard. They take way too long on their runs, most of the time doing fewer tricks than a good skater would.

It's like the difference between bodyboarding and surfing. Surfers don't appreciate bodyboarding because any chump can drag his cooler down the beach on a bodyboard, then get out in the line-up and ride waves -- without paying dues or learning any etiquette.

The way I see it skateboarders and aggressive in-liners are like rival gangs, they're not in the same gang yet they share similar pursuits on the same "turf", naturally when members of the two groups encounter one another there is bound to be hostility and conflict.

Except, from my experience, it's only the anti-rollerblading skateboarders with the gang mentality. The rollerbladers just want to skate without having to worry about this stuff. Perhaps like someone who happens to be wearing red that wanders into a Crip-filled neighbourhood.

exactly...

im assuming this post was made in regards to my post in recent purchases.

i really dont understand the hate towards rollerblading, its the same as skateboarding, its JUST a sport.

skateboarders get in the way plenty at skateparks.

i have NOTHING against any other sport, just the people involved in those sports that hate rollerbladers JUST because theyre rollerbladers, thats just plain stupid.

sure, the basics on rollerblades are harder than skateboards, but hey, look at the shit rollerbladers are doing..WAY more ballsy than skateboarders. the longest grind on a skateboard is what, like 20 feet? rollerbladers are doing rails that are like over 600 feet long. skateboarders say rollerblading is so easy. you try it, sure, i bet you can skate around find and maybe jump, but try actually doing tricks.

i used to skateboard before i rollerbladed so i can talk from both ends.

rollerblading just gets no love cause its not as huge and mainstream as skateboarding is, unfortunately. i think most people just hate on rollerblading because thats the cool thing to do...give me a good reason why you actually dont like rollerblading. what makes it different than any other sport? pelase, tell me.

also to respond to some people in the recent purchases thread...

cheapmuthafukr- "the lack of skill it requires? how awkward it looks? the faddishness of it? wax on handrails? etc..........."

lack of skill? are you kidding? do you think it takes no skill to do stuff like this...come on.

i could post pics all day long...

awkward? maybe youve just seen people with bad style because if a rollerblader has good style, they can make everything look incredibly smooth and clean.

fad? please. youre saying skateboarding isnt a fad? every kid wants a new bam deck and an element shirt nowadays. how many people do you see wearing rollerblading clothes or carrying skates to be cool?

wax on handrails? sometimes you need things to slide. i guess wax isnt needed much when just tapping the ends of rails. i aint hating on skateboarding, just making a point. ive had skateboarders borrow my wax before at skateparks (to wax a rail), so they use it to.

doctorgnar - "The fact that you just used the term "extreme sport" shows that you have no fucking clue."

isnt that what skateboarding, biking and rollerblading are? extreme sports, X-games? you know what that "X" stands for dont you? yes, eXtreme.

ive been rollerblading for over half of my life, i know what im talking about.

enough ranting for now.

^^^those pics are proof of how completely wack rollerblading is. I mean just the stance alone at all times and under any circumstances on rollerblades looks completely gay.

--- Original message by rhythmandsound on Jun 16, 2006 07:23 PM

How are they any more gay and/or awkward than skateboarding stances?
