getting selvedge denim tapered

i was wondering if its okay to get them tapered, and do they have to be tapered a different way from jeans that are non selvedge?

yeah man, just taper it from the inseam. That way the outseam stays straight and you don't lose the selvedge.

But just make it really really clear to the tailor that you don't want them to touch the outseam/selvedge. I've heard horror stories...

..with unsanforized denim. Is it a good idea to wash them first with high degrees?

I would think so.. on the other hand, it might not make a difference.. but im not sure.

i had my nom de guerre's tapered from the outseam with the selvedge. basically made the selvedge seam 2"s thicker than it originally was. however this was not simple tapering, but had the legs taken in from the upper thigh area.

I had my LVC "denim devotee" 501's tapered down to about 6.75 inches across the cuff...they tapered down the outseam....the selvage is still there..i made sure to tell them not to cut off any excess material...but now its about 1.5 inches wide...which doesnt matter to me because i never turn up my cuffs anyway...

even if they do cut it off... who cares? anyone buying jeans to cuff them up and show off the selvage is an idiot.
