I would say it actually is important when your stuff "blows up." I mean, no matter how you something is, it's hard to feel like it's your stuff when you see six other people wearing it in one day.

Just my opinion, but I like wearing stuff that isn't everywhere I look. I don't nescessarily wear what's "next," but I try to be a little different.

Like wearing keyrings with keys (obviously) got pretty big recently in the sort of places I hang out (the scene! Oh shit!), so I updated my look by buying a bunch of antique silver and metal skeleton keys from the 1800s to stay a little more distinct.

Maybe not the same thing, but that's just my take.
