As for work, check out craigslist.org. It's worked for me in the past.

Depending on your background, you might want to look into GettyImages or Corbis. Seattle kinda has the corner on the global stock photo trade. Of course, there are big tech companies here like, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. The economy here was hurt more than most and the recovery was slower, but the general feelings are more optomistic now.

As for art and general goings on, check out The Stranger. It has weekly club, gallery, band, etc. listings and is the largest alternative newspaper in the area.
