Just moved here for school. Living in a three room flat near Earl's Court.

Been away from the SUFU scene for awhile...who is living in London these days? TG? Riawin?

Also, good shops to go to? I know of Selfridges but thats about it. Any info on that would be mighty appreciated.

Im here to study photography so if anyone who has lived here there whole lives or knows alot about the area could answer some quick questions i'd really appreciate it.

Lastly...cheap eats and places to go? Where's the best cheap food around where I live?

Earl's court is a quiet area so I'm never there but Ben's Cookies in South Kensington station has, hands down, THE BEST cookies in the country, and it's logo was designed by Quentin Blake (who illustrated Roald Dahl's books) for extra British charm.

Otherwise if you're a photography exchange student, run don't walk to Shoreditch and the East End. If you ever want a guided tour I'll let you know when next I'm there but it's fun to wander aimlessly anyways -- lots of cheap food, old pubs and dirty hipsters.

Earls Court? Go to Star Kabab.

Reading your post really hurts because I lived very close by this time last year...God damn.

There are great clothing shops near Covent Garden, namely American Classics and J. Simons.

Also, go to BFI Southbank if you like movies.

I need to go back.

Otherwise, theres misato in chinatown which is a good japanese place, has big portions and is and cheap as well. don't go on a weekday lunchtime cos you'll be lining up for a while.

burrough street market at london bridge - check this massive market out on saturdays for pretty much any kind of cuisine you want especially exotic stuff. Its sick in wintertime looks like a scene from harry potter or something.

those places dover st. market and the hideout all stock supreme and some japanese brands but at stupid prices. if you are desperate for that shit then pay 100 pounds for a t shirt.

Curries in Brick lane? Kebabs on edgeware Road? Blech sir, I'm afraid I must disagree.

Brick Lane is great for the art and music scene but the curry houses have just become Times Square style tourist traps.

Best curry in London is either at Tayyab's or Lahore Kebab House, which I recommend trying at least once because it's food you don't really get in the States.

Edgeware Road is a cool place to visit a few times but unless you're the son of an Arab billionaire you'll quickly tire of the Ferrarri/Dubai Frat boy scene.

For Arab food try Yalla Yalla or Hummous Bros on Wardour St , and while you're there stop in at Princi's for awesome Italian fast food and the Jamaican Jerk places and the grandiose "Erotic art" bookstores which are really just seedy porn stores with hidden S&M dungeons. Not that I would, uh, know...

Ah, London in the Autumn; best time of year for it.

Seconded on AgentRed's curry recommendations. Go to the Lahore towards the end of the week and eat the amazing Nihari - slow-cooked lamb on the bone in an ridiculous flavourful sauce. Unless you're a vegetarian, obviously. And seconded on Brick Lane - their curries are fucking dreadful, and a tourist trap for drunk office workers. Only go if you're with a member of the Bangladeshi community who knows the owner and knows what to order.

Present, on Shoreditch High Street is also worth checking out. A

new clothes store stocking Nigel Cabourn, Arn Mercantile, and various others. The Cabourn stuff I saw the other week was the Summer 09 stuff though; and at Summer 09 prices, too.

Also worth seeing is the revolving pop-up store at Cube on Lamb's Conduit Street. The last time (a month ago, I think) I was there it was a Universal Works store, before anyone else had received their shipments. Not sure what's there at the moment, but it might be Wrangler Blue Bell. Oliver Spencer has its shipment of Universal Works and Engineered Garments now, so it's worth a visit to the street anyway.

Ranoush Juice on the Edgware Road isn't so far from you. Nor is Kebab Kid on the New King's Road. Both awesome cheap food.

good thrift stores? went to brick lane on sunday. some crazy sights and an unmarked margiela store with some boots, shoes, and lots of nice womens clothes. Any thrift stores where I can get some "nice" stuff?

Jumbo Eats in Soho/Piccadilly is seriously amazing and cheap, the dudes are really cool.

^ Yep, I'll definitely second that. They do great breakfasts, but for the authentic Jumbo's experience you've gotta go at lunchtime when the line is out the door and they've got their techno music pumping. They make their wraps so fast it's worth the visit alone just to see them at work!

Also- Japanese Kitchen a couple of doors down from the tube. The sushi's shite but the mixed meat noodle soup always brings me back.

There's a chinese place diagonally opposite too which is cheap & cheerful and reasonably good quality.
