Nikon D700/D3 vs Canon 5D Mark II

Recommended Posts

Help me choose! I like the idea of having the 1.2 lenses on the 5D and the wireless file transfer capabilities. The HD video is not something I would use...and the 21mp is not that big of a deal either. I hear the D700/D3 is a better low-light camera as fas as noise. I just need some guidance! THANKS!

I would assume that this isn't your first dslr, so you must already have lenses. Get what you have lenses for.

this is truth. if I had to choose, I'd say D700 plus some lenses.

D700 has incredible IQ and awesome high ISO performance, the best tested.

I'd get whichever feels better in my hands.

hmm well if you are familiar with Nikon I'd get the D700. it is an awesome camera. D3 is very nice but then you wouldn't have much money left for nice lenses and IMO it isn't really a huge step up from the D700.

D700 has faster fps and better low ISO performance than the 5dmkII, and it is cheaper. I shoot Nikon though so I am biased.

It looks like I can get a D3 for $4k with two lenses (which I would not keep) the 28-80 and the 70-300 which I could sell for a few hundred bucks. I would only really want to get the 50mm 1.4 which they sell and maybe the 85mm 1.4 too. I don't need anything super crazy. I would eventually sell the D3/D700 body and upgrade when they come out with their next itteration of the D3X...

I guess if your coming from Leica then your into shooting with primes, so personally i'd say go go for the D3, Sell those lenses and get yourself the

35mm 2.0, 85 1.4 and then 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 (not a HUGE difference for a fair bit cheaper). Then your set, thats a very solid setup right there (not including flashes, etc...)
