cheapo 501s STFs vs cheapo 505s

i recently switched from 505s to 501s 'cause i can't hang with the tapering on the 505s anymore. however, all my old pairs of 505s have held their color (the dark indigo) very well over the years and have also faded and whatever else really nicely. with the shrink to fits, they just look like fucking garbage and all washed out in a bad way once they finally get washed. if i buy normal 501s (non-STF) will they hold up better like 505s?
