Raincoats

Hey there, I've been lurking for some time now, but I figured it was about time to join the forum. Now, as to my dilemma. I'm headed to London for winter/spring, and I'm in need of a raincoat. I'm looking for something light and not bulky. I've used the search function already, but nothing came up. Is gortex the way to go, or is there something else? Any suggestions of brands or places to look would be helpful.

Goretex is the industry standard, you could say, but just about all the major labels out there have their own proprietary waterproof fabrics under their own names that hold up just as well(Patagonia - H2N0 HB, North Face - Hyvent, Marmot - PreCip, etc). If you're using this jacket just to walk around town then you should be fine with just a basic shell, which usually retails for around $80-150. Here are some sites to get you started:

I know everyone thinks it rains loads in London, but it's never heavy rain (well, almost never)

I doubt you will need something that is amazingly waterproof ... a v basic shell would be fine ... but it does get cold, so you may need a thick coat to see you right ...

Even in March/April you'll be cold with a hoody and a shell
