How do you deal with sorta racist people?

its funny to hear you guys saying that it sucks that you didnt inherit the pigmentation genes. i suppose that comment is racist in itself, but just looking at it in the context of a racist society, that sentiment doesnt seem very, practical?

I don't think it's bad. It's just awkward sometimes - my mom has worked mainly at native-centric jobs, like as an Aboriginal Liaison in a government position, and the producer of a first nation arts show. So, growing up I used to go tons of cultural events all over the province and my sister and I would really stick out.

original poster, I take it you're from australia? where abouts? for a country with so many different nationalities, it really makes you think how uneducated and close minded some people really are.

worst that has ever happened to me is i've randomly been called a 'wog' which is a derogitory slang for someone from greece, italy, etc. i was kinda suprised too as i am greek, but i am least greek looking person you'll meet. i mean check out my waredrobe, you won't find one article of d&g clothing or massive windshield sunglasses.

im middle eastern, like inaya...but a little bit darker and my family members wear scarves on their heads.

so if someone looks at me/us weird i start cursing in arabic loudly being sure to throw in some osamas, jihads, infidels and of course ALLAHU AKBARs.

Somehow I don't think this would be the advised course of action...

you had a chair in your hand, WWF dude in the face.

Once I was at work (my current shitty as go-karting job) and I went up front to take a break and clock out on the computer and I said to my boss "I'm taking my 30". She says "okay" and then some redneck ass cutsomer says, "don't you guys normally have 40's".

I deal with small stupid shit like this constantly and I'm very surprised I haven't quit and/or stabbed any customers.

but that guy was just being funny.

it's so racist here, by all parties... it's bizarre after spending most of my life in Boston.

interesting comment. by all accounts, and by my own experience, boston is one of the most racist cities in the northern half of the united states.

Why is everyone so sensitive about their races. Its all good in the hood, so far the N word isnt used in a condescending tone. I welcome the racist stereotype comments. They make the other person look stupid half the time if you reply with a snarky comment.

I am from Nigeria and I have heard it all. Funniest thing is most of them come from my fellow black brothers.

.

thank god there are still sensible people in the world.

half the time "racism" comes into play around me is when it gets blown completely out of proportion just to start shit/a big scene. Sometimes these people who use it as an excuse to be offended and act tough are almost as bad as the actual bigots.

eg. friend was at a party, an some guy was giving him a hard time, etc. And eventually the guy was like

"hey man, are you trying to fucking start shit with ma' niggaz?!"

to which my ingenious friend replied

"no man, i'm not starting anything with your niggaz."

long story short someone yelled out oh no you di'ant and sucker punched him from behind. (bare in mind, none of the people there were actually black)

i hate humanity sometimes.

what the fuck does a bunch of whities at a party saying nigga have to do with anything? youre a fucking idiot for wasting my 48 seconds with that post. JESUS.

never said they were white, pretty sure some Hispanic kid decided that he was defacing the integrity of his race by simply repeating the N-WORD.

but thanks for being mean :(

Greetings my Nigerian brother. Black people hate Africa and people from Africa think black people are idiots. Can't we all just get along?

Coming to America really strained the relationship between us too. I remember some niggas in my dorm called me 'Zamunda' and 'Mufasa' from my Freshman all the way to my sophomore year.

Did you know we have a name for your people too.

Aka-ta :D

But on the real though, we all just need to take it back to Africa and talk this shit over some palm wine.

i was once told to "go back to hong kong" by a white dude in a kilt.

which is weird by all accounts, seeing as how the guy was a foreigner in predominantly chinese country.

racist comments really get me incensed though, and i can only think of breaking the dude's nose at that point in time. it's only later when i'm capable of coming up w/ snarky retorts.

I'd say Hawaii is one of the most racist places in America. But it's part of the culture, everyone makes fun of everyone (although to anyone who wasn't brought up in it it looks like everyone hates everyone else).

People at my school just are too much of pussies to say anything loudly so they whisper it. Stupid kids honestly think that Seattle is one of the most dangerous cities and that black people are out to kill them

Best thing is when people who I know have gotten into accidents where it was their fault tell me I can't drive well because I'm Asian...

Its not that I am that sensitive, its just the guys annoyed tone at me and how he said OVER HERE WE SAY blah blah blah. Just because I'm ethnic means im less Australian than he is and dont understand english or whatever he was assuming and was annoyed at? Even if I had the the personality of the biggest bogan I bet he still wouldve said that.

sorry, I should clarify... cause that's a true statement. in boston, there is definitely racism. but I grew up in the projects and never experienced/saw racism toward others until I got older and knew some "upper class" people. I think there it's more of a class thing... because I never experienced racism from anyone on the same way of life as me (poor)... it was only when I started getting office jobs and interacting with people with money, is I noticed how racist boston was.

I guess I just meant, by the statement you quoted, is that the racism isn't as overt and unconditional as it is here. it's unbelievable in GA... there is a huge divide, as if the civil war hadn't happened yet. it's disgusting. they still make (state sponsored) confederate flag license plates. smh
