The set for the s/s shoot is awful. They tried going for that postindustrial grime setting but you can tell its a brand new space and they got some interns to smash up some stuff. Look at that fakeass paint peeling on the wall, the lack of tarnish, patina or dirt anywhere. Check that weathered warehouse Attachment used for a shoot for comparison.

That theme of inauthentic fakeassness is evident in the clothing too.

i doubt it, but maybe this is their intention? a parody of attachment

a spoof of undercover, a caricature of damir doma! it is like looking at ann demeulemeester made in fleece

there is no depth or theory, there is no direction! i dislike pleats, they are putting together all these different things and none of them are related, there is no color, where is the chic? too vague, i think.

they share a shortcoming with miyashita, there are certain things you to move away from for your spring/summer collection

i followed your link and i think the fw08 collection is far superior, i also looked at fw07 and think they do fw much better than ss, although its difficult to judge this early on.

i should clarify my direction/theory comment: they do have a direction/theory, i read their little manifesto, it was rather vague but their "thing", whatever it is (pleats? black? lots of volume and exeggerated lapels and exploded corners) doesn't translate well for ss, at least it doesnt appeal to me

im also not too fond of intentionally botchy screenprinting

otherwise i like a lot of it

also, the plaid and vests are lost on me, a rather preppy reference to be put into such a greyscale collection

my frame of comparison though is kawakubo's ss08, i think she did superposition and madras/plaid in a good way, as well as superposition/recursion

and its hard to beat a gal like kawakubo at her own game
