I WASHED THEM - did I do the right thing??

Longtime lurker here, I've broken in 3 pairs of raw jeans (Levis Premium Strummers, Nudie RRDS, Nudie SJDS).

I started my first pair of Japanese, SDA105's in January. I have always worn my dry denim for almost a year before washing with great results, lots of contrast, etc.

On the advice of the amazing staff at Blue in Green I bought them TIGHT -- like I could barely button them when I bought them. They told me I should soak them, then wash them fairly often -- against my "never wash" philosophy. I did not listen and I had never washed them for three months.

But finally today I could not stand it anymore. I wear them almost every day, but they had only stretched marginally and were still so damn stiff and uncomfortable that I gave in. I washed them, on delicate cycle, with an organic detergent. I was terrified I would be unable to button them when they came out, but at least the denim would be softened so they could stretch easier!

So I just took them out a few minutes ago, and put them on wet -- and I WAS able to button them, while laying on the floor and pulling very hard. There is not much contrast showing wet (there should be some whiskering and wallet marks when they dry since there was before I washed) but goddammit at least I won't dread putting them on every day!

Do you guys think they will stretch easier now? Did I do the right thing? I guess contrast isn't everything sometimes. And these SDA's should still contrast nicely if I wait a nice long time before the next wash . . . right?
